Summary of Duties:
The Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) supports the Audiology, Cochlear, Vestibular and Hearing Aid Center staff by providing interventions to enhance communication abilities of hearing impaired clients, treated in these clinics. Working under direct supervision of designated senior Audiologists, the CDA works collaboratively with clients, families and the inter-professional team, contributing to evidence-based best practice. The CDA maintains workload measurement data and documents via electronic and paper documentation according to the model of care practiced at Sunnybrook.
Responsibilities include:
Perform cochlear hearing aid troubleshooting, maintenance and care
Perform training/orientation on use of equipment and assistive listening devices
Manage equipment and inventory
Perform administrative functions as assigned
Participate in clinical education of CDA students
Participate in committees and quality improvement workgroups
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications/skills:
Post–graduate certificate or diploma from a CDAAC recognized Communicative Disorders Assistant Program
Member in good standing with CDAAC
Interest in working therapeutically with our complex hearing impaired population
Ability to function in an inter-professional setting required
Well-developed skills in time management, problem solving, and communication required
Previous experience working with the hearing impaired population, particularly those requiring cochlear implants
Demonstrated commitment to Person-Centred Care
Competency with EMR/OSCAR, Microsoft Office and Excel required
Familiarity with tablet technology an asset
