The Research Technician provides technical support related to activities involving small animals related to collecting tissue samples and conducting molecular analyses. The role reports via regular meeting with Principal Investigators and other research staff to review ongoing activities, plan future activities, and anticipate future requirements with respect to project needs. The role is responsible for collecting tissue, performing Western blots, PCR, thermolysin assays, ELISAs, immunostaining, microscopy, etc. The Research Technician will report any abnormalities and will complete and maintain documentation and records.They will perform all tasks, under the direction of their supervisor and facility managers.
Key Accountabilities:
- Applies knowledge of experimental processes to prepare and perform experiments following defined protocols and procedures
- Observes and tracks research progress and records results, analyzing and interpreting data, ensuring quality control of data
- Assists with general lab upkeep, and with ensuring compliance with health and safety policies
- Follows written SOP's and verbal instructions exactly as stated with strong attention to detail
- Performs procedures on animal tissue following defined protocols
- Ensures all documentation is completed for daily tasks including recording results of procedures and maintaining logs, ensuring quality control of data and reporting on data obtained
- Works in with other research staff (e.g., PhD student and post-doctoral fellows) and Principal Investigators
Qualifications:
Education:
- 4 year Undergraduate Degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Medical Science, Biotechnology or other relevant discipline
Experience:
- 1 year experience working in a research-intensive laboratory environment working with genetically modified mouse lines
- Experience with rodent behavior
