How You’ll Make an Impact
As the Asphalt Foreman, you will oversee daily paving operations and lead an asphalt crew to safely deliver high‑quality work on roads, parking lots, pathways, and municipal infrastructure projects. You will work closely with the Project Manager and Superintendent to plan work, coordinate resources, and keep production running efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, direct, and motivate an asphalt paving crew with clear communication and a strong safety‑first approach
- Apply extensive experience in paving roads, parking lots, pathways, and similar projects to ensure quality and efficiency
- Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent in planning the sequence of work based on specifications, drawings, and site conditions
- Coordinate labour, equipment, trucking, and material needs for current and next‑day operations
- Operate and support the operation of paving equipment, including a Weiler asphalt paver, and adjust automatics for grade and slope
- Monitor mat quality, grades, slopes, and production output, making adjustments as needed to maintain quality standards
- Perform equipment checks and basic maintenance to support uninterrupted operations
- Ensure work is completed with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Maintain daily logs, production notes, and documentation of any changes or instructions
- Communicate effectively with onsite inspectors, subcontractors, and owners’ representatives
- Work professionally and respectfully while supporting overall crew productivity
- Perform additional related tasks as required to support paving operations and project timelines
- Additional duties may be assigned as required to support safe, efficient, and continuous paving operations
Key Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as an Asphalt Foreman or in a similar leadership role
- Proven experience paving roads, parking lots, and similar surfaces
- Strong understanding of asphalt equipment, grades, slopes, and production processes
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Experience operating paving equipment (Weiler experience is an asset)
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Solid organizational abilities with the ability to multitask and prioritize
- Valid driver’s license (DZ or AZ is an asset)
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast‑paced environment
- Eligible to work in Canada
Work Conditions
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Travel to job sites within the Ottawa region is required
- Overtime, weekend, or extended hours may be necessary depending on weather and project timelines
