Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The Senior Financial Analyst, Investments is responsible for assisting in the preparation of investment financial reporting, preparation of various analysis and ensuring compliance with IFRS and regulatory requirements. The Senior Financial Analyst conducts research and performs analysis on complex accounting issues and will provide general accounting leadership to the department.
Job Responsibilities
- Assists in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Leads the preparation of investments and financial risk financial statement note disclosure ensuring compliance with IFRS standards
- Conducts research on IFRS accounting standards and developments and assesses their related impact
- Prepares investments related financial information to meet regulatory requirements including the company’s P&C-1 filing.
- Prepares investment related financial information for internal decision making and reporting purposes
- Assists with the Company’s Internal Controls over Financial Reporting program
- Prepares the financial statements and notes for The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company’s Canadian Pension Plan including all supporting entries, reconciliations, notes, and other deliverables
- Takes clear ownership and becomes an expert in a certain subject area or areas, educating others in areas they are especially knowledgeable
- Conducts analysis on complex accounting issues
- Supports process improvement, modernization, and automation initiatives
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s Degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required
- Minimum 5 years’ post-qualification experience, public accounting experience is highly valued
- Detail oriented with strong analytical skills, initiative, and ability to work independently
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Takes clear ownership and becomes an expert in a certain subject area, educating others in areas he/she is especially knowledgeable
- Ability to enable team members to achieve goals through clear instructions, support, and coaching.
- Competent knowledge of IFRS accounting standards
- Ability to research accounting standards and apply practical solutions to accounting issues
- Ability to work under tight deadlines with a keen sense of urgency
