Academic Advisor – CC# 20-07-01
The Academic Advisor will help to guide international students through correspondence courses through the summer months. The Academic Advisor will be asked to keep daily virtual office hours (2-3 hours a day) where students are able to check in with the academic advisor for questions around understanding due to language or basic material. The Academic Advisor will also be expected to reach out to students twice a week, setting deadlines for what is due, and helping students to adhere to these deadlines. Academic Advisors may be asked to look into the format of correspondence courses, and what students are expected to complete the credit. This may involve some research as well as constant contact with the ESL Camp Director.
Must have a valid Nova Scotia Teaching Certificate or application completed and certification pending
Understand the needs of the international students and assess need based on student group.
Help students to maintain structure, set and monitor deadlines, understand material based on language need.
Reach out to students at a minimum of twice a week.
Previous international teaching experience
Previous knowledge of correspondence learning
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Remuneration: As per Article 9.01 of the NSTU Local Agreement
Term position commencing July 2020 and ending on August 31, 2020
A satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check and a Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check, according to NSISP policies and standards, will be required.
