We require a skilled Registered Practical Nurse to provide patient centered care with a rehabilitation focus for a diverse population of clients including the frail elderly and patients of all ages with a musculoskeletal diagnosis. Specialized Geriatric Services includes the: Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Unit, Geriatric Rehabilitation Unit, and Amputee Rehabilitation Unit.
The 30 bed Geriatric Rehabilitation Unit, 20 bed Musculoskeletal Unit, and 6 bed Amputee Unit are part of Specialized Geriatric Services. We provide comprehensive geriatric assessment and management as well as an intensive rehabilitation program. Our patients are typically admitted from acute care and participate in our program for approximately 10 days to 6 weeks. Upon discharge, our patients commonly return to independent living in the community. As an integral part of an expert health care team, this is an exciting opportunity for clinical learning and skill development.
The successful candidate may be required to work anywhere within the program and must be available for all shifts. It is understood that the hours of work reflect the current scheduling arrangements and are subject to change as determined by the Employer.
Essential Qualifications
Current certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Valid CPR certificate
Proficiency and experience in pharmacology and medication administration
Experience and knowledge of the care of patients requiring musculoskeletal rehabilitation and geriatric rehabilitation
Ability to establish positive relationships with customers and to work as an effective team member
Demonstrated ability to apply and document the nursing process
Excellent organizational skills and problem solving skills
Superior communication skills both written and verbal
Ability to apply effective body mechanics and meet the physical demands of the position
Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in French would be an asset
Certification for phlebotomy and IV starts
