Position Summary
The Information Technology (IT) Advisor provides technical expertise, operational guidance, and strategic advice to support the organization's technology infrastructure across KEDC's business lines and partners. The IT Advisor is responsible for maintaining reliable IT services, recommending technology improvements, supporting IT projects, developing documentation, and assisting with business continuity initiatives while delivering exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
Location: Port Hardy is a small coastal community located at the northern end of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. It serves as a regional hub for transportation, fishing, tourism, and services for surrounding communities, including many First Nations. Known for its proximity to rich natural landscapes, Port Hardy offers access to outdoor activities such as fishing, wildlife viewing, and marine exploration. The area has strong ties to Indigenous cultures and plays an important role in supporting economic development and community services in the North Island region.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Support & Operations
- Provide advanced technical support for hardware, software, network, and cloud-based systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex IT issues or provide recommendations for appropriate solutions.
- Support the day-to-day operation of IT services and ensure timely resolution of service requests.
- Monitor system performance and recommend improvements to increase reliability and efficiency.
- Perform system maintenance, upgrades, and preventative maintenance activities.
IT Advisory & Continuous Improvement
- Advise leadership on technology solutions, emerging trends, and opportunities to improve business operations.
- Recommend best practices for IT governance, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and operational efficiency.
- Assist in developing and reviewing IT policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation.
Project Support
- Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of IT projects.
- Track project milestones and provide status updates to leadership.
- Assist with technology implementations, upgrades, and system integrations.
- Participate in business continuity and disaster recovery planning initiatives.
Documentation & Training
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, system inventories, and configuration records.
- Develop user guides, knowledge base articles, and training materials.
- Deliver end-user training and onboarding support for new employees.
- Promote technology best practices across the organization.
Vendor & Stakeholder Support
- Liaise with vendors, service providers, and technology partners.
- Assist with vendor coordination, quotations, licensing, and support agreements.
- Support evaluation of new software and technology solutions.
- Maintain positive working relationships with internal departments and external partners.
General Responsibilities

- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices.

Education & Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum three (3) years of progressive IT support or systems administration experience.
- Experience supporting Microsoft 365, Windows environments, networking, and cloud technologies.
- Experience with IT documentation, troubleshooting, and project support.
- Experience in an Indigenous organization or not-for-profit environment is considered an asset.

Working Conditions
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required during system maintenance or project implementations.
- Travel between KEDC business locations may be required.
- Must maintain a valid driver's licence.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to access work areas requiring ladders, crawl spaces, or confined spaces when necessary.
- Ability to work at computer workstations for extended periods.
Pay: $60,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
