Why is this role important?
The Director is responsible for developing and implementing corporate physical security policies and procedures to protect colleagues, the reputation of the company and assets. The Director serves as security equipment topic expert and consults with upper management to develop budgets for security equipment, formal capital submissions and business cases. The Physical Security Director oversees asset protection training material, civil recovery and communicating changes to security related legislation.
Responsible for determining scope of work for all construction and renovation projects including loss prevention equipment and identifying budgetary requirements
Follow up on installation execution including capital allocation and purchase orders and address efficiencies prior to opening (ie. repair and maintenance support)
Review vendor recommendations to determine if equipment should be repaired or replaced and follow up on outstanding service concerns/quotes
Fast track all emergency or critical service concerns to the appropriate vendor
Maintain minimum standards documentation based on needs of business and draft formal policies related to physical security equipment (ie. PIPEDA, card access and key control policy)
Work with Finance to close projects upon completion
Provide quarterly recap of asset protection spend to date as well as summary and recap of changes to AP Senior Management team
Research vendors, credentials, insurance and the services they offer, initiate setup in SAP and maintain vendor list for accuracy
Manage business relationships and escalate store level concerns
Review security guard legislation for each province
Source/research new physical security technology, equipment and applications that could improve efficiencies, reduce costs or benefit Loblaw
Attend seminars and workshops to review new technology in the industry
Tour stores with the AP operational team to provide physical security support
Respond to civil recovery calls that cannot be handled by customer service representatives within 48 hours and respond to customer complaints sent to civil recovery in error
5-7 years of progressive leadership experience
Experience with security guard legislation & requirements
Extensive knowledge of physical security equipment
Managerial and policy making experience in the corporate physical security field
Experience in preparing and managing capital and equipment budgets
A sound working knowledge of security best practices and relevant legislation
Strong management and leadership skills, as well as excellent communication, influencing, negotiating and engagement skills
Sound judgement and decision making skills, with a ‘hands on’, problem solving approach; ability to remain calm under pressure and take control of incidents
Experience writing procedures, drafting reports and preparing business cases
Highly effective relationship management skills with a track record of developing, selling and executing programs collaboratively
Ability to gain senior management support for new ideas and initiatives
Strong problem solving and analytical skills
Exceptional leadership skills including visioning, strategic planning and critical thinking.
Strategic thinking ability and ability to tailor proactive and cost effective strategies to address total loss opportunities.
Ability to travel frequently (across Canada)
On call via cell phone 24 hours per day, 7 days a week
