About Animal Place
Animal Place is an original animated television series entering proof-of-concept production to test its visual identity, character performance, camera approach, and technical workflow before moving into larger-scale production. The project marries expressive 2D character animation with painterly layered environments, cinematic camera movement, and multiplane scene construction.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Toon Boom Harmony Animator & Scene Assembly Artist to build, animate, and technically engineer our proof-of-concept sequence. This unique role requires an equal balance of artistic acting sensitivity and deep pipeline problem-solving. You will turn approved storyboards, dialogue tracks, and layered environmental art into beautifully performing, stable production scenes.
Key Responsibilities & Required Skills
* Character Animation Performance: Deliver premium-quality, dialogue-driven performances for characters, showcasing mastery over posing, timing, weight, and emotional expression.
* Technical Rig Manipulation: Work fluidly within a hybrid workflow (rigged, hand-drawn, or hand-drawn breakdowns over rigs). Modify, extend, and repair existing character rigs, deformers, and drawing substitutions on the fly to meet performance requirements.
* Cinematic Staging & Camera Physics: Build multiplane scenes using layered background paintings. Design and execute complex camera movements and multiplane parallax while strictly maintaining correct perspective, scale, and character eyelines.
* Pipeline Infrastructure & Node Management: Organize complex project environments using clean Node View hierarchies and coloured backdrops. Troubleshoot technical scene issues involving pegs, layers, and cameras independently.
* Handoff & Render Optimization: Optimize scene files for rendering efficiency and stability. Isolate elements and prepare clean Harmony packages for seamless delivery to the compositor.
Nice-to-Have Skills
* Advanced Harmony compositing or temporary effects/lighting setup experience.
* Prior experience on premium cinematic television or feature animation projects.
* Familiarity with Blender or bridging simple 3D asset integration into 2D spaces.
Expected Deliverables
* Fully optimized, organized Toon Boom Harmony project files with clean Node Views.
* Final character animation passes with completed acting, dialogue synchronization, and revisions.
* Assembled multiplane layout spaces featuring integrated background artwork and animated camera pegs.
* Final render-ready source files packaged for post-production compositing handoff.
