Taber Special Needs Society has been in existence since 1987. The Society provides support to adults with developmental disabilities. The Society advocates and supports an inclusive environment both for the individuals and the staff that support them. There will be on the job training and job shadowing.
Rotation details: One Part Time position averaging 24 hours a week two to four shifts per week with the option to work additional hours. It includes evenings and weekends in a 6-week rotation (included below). All eight-hour shifts, 3pm-11pm
There are also relief positions at the residence. These positions do not have extended benefits or paid vacations attached to them.
Overview: In this position you will be actively supporting 2 gentlemen in their evening routines as well as accessing activities that they enjoy in the community such as visiting parks and pathways, attending church, going for walks or picnics as well as special community events and concerts. You will be actively assisting and creating opportunities for the gentlemen to use and expand their skills, abilities and interests in their home and in the community. This is a behavioral home and being adaptable to meet their needs is a requirement. In this residence there is one to one staffing, and you will be a part of a collaborative team who work together to enhance the lives of these gentlemen.
Responsibilities: You will be involving gentlemen in their daily living and social skills, facilitating opportunities in the home and the community. Providing behavioral supports and helping the gentlemen develop and build skills to maintain positive behavior through the use of Wellness plans and positive support strategies. Offering, planning and assisting in opportunities that enhance independence in their interests, abilities, achievement of personal goals and ensuring health needs are met. You will be assisting both gentlemen in all areas in their home. This includes but not limited to dietary needs, hygiene and personal care (including toileting), general housekeeping, money transactions, shopping, and recreation. Completing accurate daily logs and reporting. Medication administration and assisting in medical appointments when needed. Participation in team meetings and collaboration. Other responsibilities include meal planning, cooking and general housekeeping.
Qualifications: You will be able to work within and be a contributing team member and independently. Possess good written and verbal communication, be to active listen, and possess the ability to provide positive feedback. You will be required to be adaptable, be creative and think outside the box. You will be able to remain calm in a fast paced and at times stressful work environment. Possess good problem solving skills and Initiative
The successful candidate will receive training in: Emergency First Aid, CPR, Medication Administration, Abuse Protocol, SIVA.
Required physical abilities include, walking, using stairs and assisting individuals.
Prior experience working with Down syndrome, Dementia and Autism will be an asset.
As well as: · be 18 years of age or older. ·possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with proof of $2 million liability insurance. · possess a clean criminal record check with the vulnerable persons sector check.
Experience in the disability sector or health sector is an asset, but not necessary as we provide all training.
