Job description for Toxicology Reseqarch animal technician:
This position requires an individual with the ability to monitor and perform all duties associated with laboratory animal research god practices.
The ideal candidate will possess experience working with various lab animal species, such as mice, rats, rabbits, dogs, and minipigs and familiar with laboratory animal techniques.
The successful candidate will be responsible for dosing oral or parenteral, monitoring animal behavior, and participating in research studies in accordance with good laboratory practices (GLP).
The research toxicology animal technician will be expected to assist veterinarians and researchers with handling animals for examinations and procedures when necessary and recording data.
The ideal candidate should be able to perform intraperitoneal, intravenous, intramuscular, and subcutaneous injections, as well as oral dosing on a variety of laboratory animals.
The candidate should also have experience collecting biological specimens such as blood by different routes (intravenous, cardiac, abdominal aorta), and urine.
The position requires a flexible work schedule, including weekends and after-hours if requested.
The individual should be knowledgeable and familiar with current Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs).
Education/Requirements:
A minimum of one of the following must be held by the Laboratory Animal Technician:
- University or College degree in biological science from an accredited post-secondary institution
- Registration as a CALAS or AALAS laboratory technologist
- Successful completion of a 2-year Animal Health Technology program from an accredited college
- Previous Job Experience:
- Minimum one year of animal laboratory research
