Position: Outdoor Recess Supervisor (Part-Time | Monday–Friday on school days| 11:00 AM–2:00 PM)

Montessori School of Calgary is looking for a caring, energetic, and dependable Outdoor Recess Supervisor to join our school community. This is an ideal position for someone who enjoys working with children, being outdoors, and creating a positive and safe environment for students during their lunch and recess period.
The Outdoor Recess Supervisor is responsible for supervising students though lunch and the transition to outdoors during the school’s midday lunch break and recess period. The successful candidate will help ensure that students are safe, engaged, and respectful while encouraging positive play and independence.
Founded in 1983, MSofC is a not-for-profit independent school offering authentic Montessori education to children aged 3 to 12. Our program blends Montessori pedagogy with Alberta Education curricula. Our vibrant school community is located in the historic Cliff Bungalow School in downtown Calgary, providing a unique and inspiring setting for learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete a daily playground safety sweep/visual inspection, including checking for and removing litter, discarded items, paraphernalia, or other materials that may pose a concern to students and reporting any issues to school administration
- Assist students with appropriate outdoor clothing and transitions as needed
- Supervise students during lunch and outdoor recess from 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
- Monitor student activities and intervene appropriately when safety/behavioural concerns arise
- Encourage positive, respectful interactions and cooperative play
- Support students in resolving minor conflicts and navigating social situations
- Be attentive to weather conditions and ensure students are appropriately supervised
- Follow school safety, emergency, and supervision procedures
- Communicate any significant concerns or incidents to the appropriate classroom teacher
- Work collaboratively and respectfully with teachers and other school staff
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children
- Warm, patient, and approachable personality
- Strong awareness of child safety and supervision
- Able to remain calm and responsive in a busy environment
- Reliable and punctual
- Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and physically able to engage in activities, including walking/running, lifting, bending, and kneeling
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently while being part of a collaborative school team
- First Aid certification is an asset
