Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Analytics Consultant, reporting to the Manager, Utilization and Analytics, will work closely with an integrated team of business intelligence and decision support to lead analytics projects and solutions that provide business and clinical insights for clinical leadership. This role requires strong project management and communication skills, ability to transform business requirements into technical deliverables, and data insights into business recommendations. Key components of the job: requirements gathering; database querying and data analysis; automation of reports and development of KPI tracking solutions; ad-hoc reporting; data visualization; communication of analytical insights; and directing and coordinating information requests.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide and communicate analytics and business intelligence solution and insights to assist clinical leadership in clinical and business improvement initiatives.
  • Develop, produce, and analyze reports to support decision making, planning, impact analysis, proposals and understanding our business.
  • Use and maintain Business Intelligence tools such as Epic EMR Dashboards and reports, Tableau, Crystal Reports, Epic SlicerDicer, SAP Business Objects, and other performance management tools/systems for all data types as required, ensuring data is accurate, timely and current.
  • Provide education and subject matter expertise to the leadership team and physicians on the interpretation of data, and functionality of business intelligence tools and reports.
  • Develop tools to measure and monitor selected clinical and non-clinical corporate and clinical key performance indicators.
  • Assist in conceptualizing and data mining for specific projects/queries/research.
  • Liaise with other analysts and data-related staff to enhance data quality and ease data reconciliation processes.
  • Replicate and/or validate performance measure methodology as per required ministry specifications.
  • Perform market share analysis as required.
  • Keep abreast of current advances in the fields of Health, Business Intelligence and Information Management.
  • Work with peers and stakeholders external to the hospital.
  • Liaise with data stakeholders/owners, Senior Team members, vendors and IT as required
  • Contribute to the overall effectiveness of Mackenzie Health through involvement in special projects, committees, or task forces.
  • Promote excellent Public Relations by fostering and maintaining positive communications with both peers and clinical customers.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Effective and independent self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills, data and statistical acumen, and ability to work with an integrated team of various disciplines.
  • Expertise in leveraging data visualization to communicate business and clinical insights.
  • Bachelor’s degree in biostatistics, computer science, engineering and/or related STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) field.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • At least 3 years experience in business intelligence, data science, or relevant field.
  • At least 2 years demonstrated experience in analytical insights communication.
  • At least 2 years in a project management and/or analytics project leadership role.
  • 2 years experience working in healthcare setting with a basic understanding of hospital patient flow / clinical workflow would be an asset.
  • At least 3 years previous experience in one or more programming/statistical markup language (R, Python, SAS, Java, C/C+/C++).
  • Strong abilities in Excel pivot tables required.
  • At least 3 years previous experience in SQL Data Query Language is required.
  • Extremely strong data visualization acumen and demonstrated experience working with BI and data visualization tools (Tableau, Qlik, Power BI, Alteryx).
  • Strong ability to distill complex business problems into simple analytics solutions.
  • Experience within a consulting role would be a strong asset.
  • Functional experience in applied statistics (hypothesis testing, linear/logistic/multivariate regression).
  • Familiarity or Epic certification in Epic application or reporting modalities (Cogito / Caboodle) including SAP Crystal reports would be an assist.
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders at all levels of the organization an asset
  • Knowledge of hospital clinical databases (e.g. DAD,NACRS, CCRS, NRS, OMHRS, CCIS, WTIS, ERNI, etc.) and case mix systems (e.g. RUG/RWPD, RCG/RCW, SCIPP/SWPD, etc.) an asset
  • Experience with funding models (HBAM, MOH QBPs, CCO QBPs) and asset.
  • Knowledge of MOH, CCO/ ORS and CIHI data submission and reporting tools an asset
  • Knowledge and understanding of key health care performance measures (clinical, financial, utilization, efficiency) and balanced scorecards an asset.
  • Strong data management and statistical analysis skills required.
  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to deal with situations where information is difficult to obtain, complex, or ambiguous
