Position Summary
The Addictions Counsellor is responsible for providing individual and group counselling services to clients participating in residential addiction treatment. Working alongside our clinical and support teams, you will assist clients in identifying barriers to recovery, developing individualized treatment goals, and building the skills necessary to maintain long-term wellness.
This role requires strong clinical judgement, excellent documentation skills, professionalism, and the ability to build meaningful therapeutic relationships.
Responsibilities
As an Addictions Counselor, you will:
- Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments.
- Develop individualized treatment plans using a person-centred approach.
- Facilitate psychoeducational and process groups.
- Provide individual counseling sessions.
- Complete ongoing progress notes and clinical documentation.
- Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences.
- Assist with discharge planning and aftercare development.
- Support clients through difficult emotional experiences using trauma-informed practices.
- Encourage participation in recovery programming and community supports.
- Monitor client progress and update treatment goals as needed.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with organizational and professional standards.
- Participate in regular clinical supervision and professional development.
- Collaborate with physicians, management, support staff, and external community partners.
- Uphold confidentiality, ethics, and professional boundaries at all times.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
Required
- Diploma or Degree in Addiction Studies, Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health, Community Services, or a related field.
- Knowledge of addiction, concurrent disorders, relapse prevention, and recovery-oriented care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and documentation abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid Standard First Aid & CPR.
- Current Vulnerable Sector Check (or ability to obtain one).
Preferred
- Registration or eligibility with a recognized professional regulatory body or certification organization.
- Experience working within residential addiction treatment.
- Experience facilitating therapeutic groups.
- Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing (MI).
- Knowledge of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
- Knowledge of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
- Trauma-Informed Care training.
- Suicide intervention and crisis management experience.

Schedule
- Full-Time and Part-Time opportunities available.
- Day, evening, weekend, and occasional holiday shifts.
