About the Role
MKW Commercial Vehicles is looking for a highly skilled technician to join our team. You will take the lead on specialized truck modifications, focusing on the installation of hi-rail gear, complex hydraulic systems, and custom service bodies. If you have a strong mechanical aptitude, a deep understanding of fluid power, and take pride in building highly functional, heavy-duty commercial vehicles, we want you in our shop.
Key Responsibilities
- Mount, align, and integrate custom service bodies onto various commercial truck chassis, ensuring proper weight distribution and securement.
- Install, align, and test hi-rail gear on heavy-duty vehicles.
- Route, assemble, and install complex hydraulic systems, including PTOs, pumps, reservoirs, and specialized tool circuits.
- Outfit service bodies with integrated equipment, including cranes, air compressors, tool drawers, and shelving units.
- Perform custom fabrication, welding, and structural modifications required for upfitting heavy-duty equipment and body swaps.
- Wire and integrate 12v/24v electrical control systems for service body lighting, hydraulic controls, and hi-rail accessories.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on specialized vehicle builds.
- Ensure all installations meet rigorous safety and industry compliance standards.
Qualifications
- Strong, verifiable experience working with heavy-duty hydraulics and fluid power systems.
- Proven experience installing service bodies, hi-rail equipment, snowplows, cranes, or similar heavy-duty truck attachments.
- Solid structural welding and custom metal fabrication skills.
- Proficiency in reading technical schematics (mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical).
- Experience with 12v/24v automotive electrical systems, specifically for wiring auxiliary lighting and equipment controls.
- A 310T Truck and Coach Technician or 421A Heavy Duty Equipment Technician license is a strong asset, but we will consider uncertified candidates with extensive specialized upfitting experience.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on custom builds.
