HIRING FOR SECHELT & GIBSONS VISITOR CENTRES
Sunshine Coast Tourism is hiring for a part-time, year-round Tourism Visitor Information Counsellor position, with shifts available at both the Sechelt and Gibsons Centres, and occasional mobile visitor services at events in the region. The Visitor Experience Team provides welcoming and authentic service that supports the Sunshine Coast's vital tourism economy by promoting area businesses, activities, and attractions. Our team answers questions from visitors and locals at the Sechelt and Gibsons Visitor Centres, and at events in our hybrid-electric Jeep.

Position: Part-time, 12–24 hours/week | Winter shifts: 6 hrs | Summer shifts: 8 hrs

JOB DESCRIPTION
As a Tourism Visitor Information Counsellor (TVIC), you provide on-site, online, and mobile visitor services to extend visitors’ stays, improve geographic dispersion, support the local economy, and create a remarkable travel experience.
You will:
- Identify visitor needs and provide friendly, professional, accurate information on directions, attractions, accommodations, events, and tourism products/services
- Build strong knowledge of Sunshine Coast Tourism’s (SCT) stakeholders (local businesses) and key marketing messages to best promote and sell their products and services
- Sell and stock retail merchandise; handle POS transactions
- Distribute promotional materials and maintain inventory
- Promote the Sustainable Sunshine Coast initiative (conservation, electric vehicles, active transportation) and share regional messages such as fire safety and water restrictions
- Gather and record visitor statistics per Destination BC and SCT standards
- Occasionally, provide mobile visitor services at local events and festivals
- Support other SCT projects and team members as needed (e.g., database entry)
- Follow professional dress code, Standard Operating Procedures, and health and safety protocols
- Participate in meetings, training, familiarization tours, and presentations
- Work some weekends and statutory holidays
- Perform other duties as assigned
WAGES & PERKS
- $20/hour
- Flexible work schedule, 2–3 shifts/week (6-hour shifts in winter, 8-hour shifts in summer)

SUNSHINE COAST TOURISM REQUIREMENTS:
- Employees must live in the Sunshine Coast region
- A valid driver’s license is required
- Strong English communication skills (verbal and written) are required for this role
- Knowledge of the Sunshine Coast’s tourism offerings is an asset
- Basic computer skills (i.e. email, web browsing)
