The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver (EFry) is a charitable organization that supports women, girls, and children at risk, involved in or affected by the justice system. Our programs work to break the cycle of poverty, addiction, mental illness, homelessness, and crime.
We are recruiting for a Temporary Part-Time maternity leave coverage for Janitor (Maintenance Worker) for our Rosewood program. Located in Surrey, Rosewood is a 40 room shelter for women and their children. The Janitor worker performs upkeep tasks such as maintaining cleanliness in common areas such as lobbies, elevators, walkways, entrance and exits and among others. Performs general cleaning and disinfects washroom facilities and ensure the common areas are in clean, orderly and functional condition. This position requires the physical ability necessary to walk, bend, push, pull and lift repetitively throughout the shift. Will be regularly exposed to and in contact with dust, and other chemicals to perform cleaning duties.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform cleaning activities such as dusting, mopping, vacuuming, polishing surface floors etc.
- Spot cleans walls, partitions, light switched, windows, and windowsills.
- Deep cleans and disinfects washroom facilities.
- Handles garbage and recycling collection.
- Operates cleaning janitorial equipment and other associated tools and cleaning materials.
- Report to Program Supervisors for any janitorial issues.
- Performs other related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Complete grade 10 education and 1-month previous janitorial experience in residential facility
- Knowledgeable with the BC Occupational Health & Safety Regulation.
- Knowledge of cleaning, proper storage and disposal
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to engage in positive and respectful working relationship with staff, colleague, clients and tenants.
- Very good communication and interpersonal skills
- Physical stamina and dexterity
MANDATORY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Food Safe Level 1.
- Standard First Aid with CPR-C.
- Evidence of a Tuberculosis Test and compliance with the TB Control Program.
- Doctor’s Note of fitness required.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Review (Vulnerable Sector Search).
- This position requires union membership.
