The opportunity

Our Cloud Operations & Infrastructure team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are expanding our presence in Calgary, Alberta to support the Information Services department.

We are seeking an energetic Data Scientist who has knowledge and experience in analyzing large and complex data to provide TC Energy’s business with solutions to optimize and build strategic opportunities. This individual has the proven skills, competencies and capacity to lead and coach key stakeholders to deliver on business outcomes and specialized projects.

  • This position is part of an on-call rotation and may be requested to provide support during emergency response incidents or extended days due to operational needs, as required.
What you’ll do

Analyze large and complex datasets utilizing a variety of different tools to assist in business optimization opportunities
Work cross-functionally with team members to deliver insights and solutions to key stakeholders throughout the business
Research and solve multifaceted analytical problems using a quantitative approach from large datasets
Lead and execute analytical initiatives and projects to provide solutions to TC Energy’s business units
Design, install, configure, audit, and maintain highly available enterprise database systems
Collaborate with other database and IT Infrastructure team members to make recommendations and help develop and implement effective policies, processes, and tools for supporting and managing TC Energy’s database environment
Communicate patterns and findings to various business units in a way that is innovative and can influence the approach on an organizational challenge
Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline
Minimum of 6 years of related work experience in a similar role
Proven proficiency with database & support (SQL Server, Postgres, Oracle, Sybase, AWS native)
Experience in executing complex or specialized projects leading a team of internal and external members
Ability to influence internal and external stakeholders to ensure goals are met and conflicts are resolved in an efficient manner
Proven ability to effectively communicate business and technical issues to key stakeholders as well as present data in a visual format
Knowledge and experience in statistical concepts and data mining techniques
Proven proficiency with analytics
Preferred Qualifications

Certification in MSCE, PMP, or equivalent is considered an asset
Experience in programming background in Python, SQL and statistical analysis environments such as MATLAB, SPSS, or SAS
Strong understanding of the energy industry and built business acumen is considered an asset
Experience in project management and leading a project team consisting of one or more support staff
Demonstrated strong partnership, teamwork and communication skills with a focus on customer service
Excellent problem solving, decision analysis, interpersonal and consulting skills
Passionate to learn new technologies, tools and techniques
