To support the use of this exciting new technology, Sinai Health is seeking an experienced and technology proficient perioperative RN to assume the role of Robotics Patient Flow Coordinator.
The Robotic Patient Flow (RPF) Coordinator works under the direction and supervision of the Nursing Unit Administrator for Perioperative Services and is responsible for developing and implementing services and activities related to the Robotics Program. The RPF Coordinator functions as an integral member of the patient care team, responsible for providing clinical direction to team members, coordinating an interdisciplinary approach to patient flow, including daily communication, policy and process development and implementation.
Support and maintain the principles of interdisciplinary teamwork, collaborative management, patient and family centred care and continuous quality improvement.
Act as coach, mentor and role model to front-line staff; facilitate effective communication and decision making.
Promote the implementation of efficient and effective practices and processes to ensure smooth patient flow.
Actively participate as a member of the Robotic Steering Committee (RSC); provide feedback to the RSC on Robotic Block Scheduling.
Establish relationships with external organizations to facilitate the development and sharing of knowledge.
Serve as subject matter expert, identifying, recommending and implementing sustainable improvements in processes through data collection and analysis.
Develop and implement tools to communicate and manage robotic program coordination in the organization.
Robotics Platform Coordination:
Conduct da Vinci System training to support the onboarding of OR staff and surgeons, in collaboration with vendor Clinical Sales Representative via the daVinci Surgery online modules and practical hands-on.
Collaborate with Central Issues in managing Robotic custom packs (Robotic MVR, Robotic XI, etc) for additions, deletions.
Coordinate with the Data Center on the Robotic surgery schedule.
Promote efficient back-table setup by providing case appropriate custom packs and standardization of instrument trays (Robotic and accessory).
Request and maintain inventory of instruments and accessories related to robotic surgery and maintain ancillary supplies (e.g. Endo Wrist, instruments, scopes, etc.).
Maintain accurate preference cards and collaborate with other preference card editors for changes (additions or deletions).
Set up da Vinci Surgical System for surgical procedures.
Set up of auxiliary equipment for da Vinci procedures (ESU/Bipolar, Harmonic, BK Ultrasound Probes, etc.).
Manage routine preventative maintenance on daVinci Surgical System in coordination with Minogue.
Clinical troubleshooting of the da Vinci Surgical System during robotic procedures.
Investigate and coordinate system/instrument/scope deficiencies and ensure expedited replacement and repair.
Act as point person for any da Vinci related questions.
Ensure regular rounding with physicians, nursing staff, and allied healthcare professionals on ways to improve service.
To ensure efficient patient flow and ongoing team development, supervise the preparation and positioning of patients for robotic procedures.
Process and Quality Improvement
Maintain quality standards for exemplary and responsive service including data management of key quality indicators and serve as a liaison between physicians, nursing staff, allied healthcare professionals, patients, and their caregivers.
Collect and correlate statistical robotics patient flow activity data; facilitate data quality and reporting.
Identify systems issues within the organization and assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to support resolution.
Provide professional nursing development and education services to nurses and surgical technicians in collaboration with the OR Educator.
Perform other duties related to the position as required.
Current certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
Successful completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited educational institution; Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
Minimum five (5) years’ of recent and related clinical experience (i.e. Urology, Gynecology, ENT and General surgery, etc.).
Specialty certification-Perioperative Nursing-CPN(C)
In-depth knowledge of Robotic System Platforms (SI and XI) or willingness to obtain
Experience as a circulating nurse in the operating room, preferably with robotic experience.
A minimum of three (3) years’ recent and progressive leadership experience.
Applicants with proven equivalent recent and related training and experience may be considered.
Membership in professional nursing and specialty organizations.
Demonstrated leadership and effective interpersonal skills with proven negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the proven ability to clearly define and articulate requirements, priorities, impacts, and solutions.
Possesses a high level of accountability and proven capability to identify opportunities, take initiative and think through future implications.
Ability to organize and lead staff in improving efficiency in the robotic-assisted suite and collaborate with robotic surgeons to set, as well as meet expectations.
Demonstrated capacity for teaching, organizing, planning and development.
Proficient using information technology tools and solutions i.e. Microsoft Office; proficiency with excel and data analysis.
Demonstrated high level of initiative and self-direction, flexibility and ability to adapt to change.
Excellent organizational and independent decision making skills with the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history.
