Job Overview
SNDL is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to join our Accruals & Accounting Reconciliations Team. The ideal candidate will be a key member of the accounting team, focusing on guaranteeing compliance with IFRS accounting principles and respective SOX requirements, while supporting the harmonization, efficiency, and transparency of SNDL’s accounting processes, entries, and reporting.
Role and responsibilities:
As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will work in a fast-paced environment to support SNDL’s end-to-end processes to enable improved accountability, efficiency, and agility. Key to your success in this role will be a positive attitude, eagerness to learn, take ownership, and embrace a passion for SNDL.
What you’ll do:
- Assist in leading monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results, including journal entries, account reconciliations and account analysis across all segment units.
- Support the Accruals & Accounting Reconciliations team with reviewing working papers and analyzing lead sheets.
- Oversee operating statement review of accounts and subledgers for any misclassification or omissions of, expenses, financial entries, and accruals and recommend solutions.
- Analyze, and investigate variances through review of general ledger accounts and subledgers and report findings to management where appropriate.
- Assist in reviewing retail segment reporting through dashboards for Retail Operators and other key stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with auditors to assist with audit requests, provide supporting documents and respond to questions in a timely manner.
- Support maintaining corporate general ledger and new setups and manage financial system practices and procedures to improve the efficiency.
- Maintaining high quality internal controls including adherence to SOX requirements.
- Coach, mentor, and provide training to other accounting associates, within the Accruals & Accounting Reconciliations team.
- Assist with special ad-hoc projects, reports and analysis as required.
Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA designation required.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS along with public practice experience preferred.
- Minimum of 3-4 years of progressive finance and accounting related experience
- Strong people skills with ability to develop meaningful relationships across in-person and virtual teams.
- Ability to work independently as well as a collaborative team member.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Possess a curiosity to look further, broader, deeper, and not just process information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Criminal record check required.
Ideally, you’ll also have:
- Advanced Excel (pivot tables, lookup functions, manipulating large volumes of data) & experience with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
- Experience in data modeling and visualization tools such as Power BI considered an asset.
- Experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365.
