Position Overview:
We are seeking a reliable and motivated Shop Assistant to join our team and support our maintenance departments operations. This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in the automotive or heavy-duty vehicle industry while working alongside experienced mechanics servicing waste management fleet equipment in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a genuine interest in learning the mechanical trade.
Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Assist licensed mechanics with vehicle maintenance and repair tasks.
- Perform routine maintenance services including oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop floor, work bays, and equipment storage areas.
- Assist parts coordinator as needed with incoming parts and supplies.
- Support the mechanic team with general shop duties and other tasks as assigned.
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment.
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn automotive repair skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks throughout the workday.
- Strong work ethic with reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Previous experience in an automotive shop or related field is an asset but not required.
- Enrollment in or completion of an automotive apprenticeship program is considered an asset.
- Comfortable working with hand tools and shop equipment.
