House League, Learn to Play and SBA League Programs
The Scarborough Basketball Association is looking for energetic, reliable and passionate basketball trainers to support our House League, Learn to Play and SBA League programs.
This is a paid opportunity for coaches and trainers who enjoy working with young athletes, teaching the game, and creating a positive basketball experience for players of different ages and skill levels.
SBA trainers play an important role in helping players build confidence, develop fundamentals, understand the game and enjoy being part of a team environment. Whether players are just starting basketball or preparing for more competitive opportunities, our trainers help create the foundation for long-term growth.
About the Role
SBA basketball trainers will help lead skill development sessions, practices, drills, game play activities and player instruction within our recreational and development programs.
Trainers should be comfortable teaching core basketball skills, keeping players engaged, communicating clearly, and creating a safe, organized and positive learning environment.
This role is ideal for individuals who love basketball, enjoy working with youth, and want to help players improve while promoting teamwork, effort, sportsmanship and confidence.

SBA is currently looking for trainers for the following programs:
House League Basketball
Learn to Play Basketball
SBA League Basketball
Opportunities may include evening and weekend sessions depending on program schedules.
Responsibilities
SBA basketball trainers may be responsible for:
Planning and leading basketball skill development activities
Teaching fundamentals such as dribbling, passing, shooting, footwork, defence and team play
Running drills, competitions, scrimmages and game-based learning activities
Supporting players of different ages, abilities and experience levels
Creating a positive, inclusive and encouraging environment
Helping players build confidence, discipline, teamwork and basketball IQ
Providing clear instruction and constructive feedback
Working with SBA coaches, program leads and staff to support consistent program delivery
Ensuring sessions are safe, organized and age appropriate
Representing the SBA in a professional and positive manner
Ideal Candidates
We are looking for trainers who are:
Passionate about basketball and youth development
Reliable, organized and prepared
Positive, energetic and patient
Comfortable leading groups of young athletes
Able to teach basketball skills clearly and effectively
Strong communicators with players, parents and staff
Committed to sportsmanship, teamwork and player development
Available for evenings and/or weekends
Previous coaching, training or playing experience is an asset, but the most important qualities are energy, commitment, communication and a genuine interest in helping young players improve.
