Vale's Ontario Operations is currently seeking a:
Maintenance Engineer

The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for on-site technical maintenance support, engineering screening/scoping, repair scopes of work and contributing to continuous improvement intitiatives at the site(s) they support.

Accountabilities:
Provide on-site, maintenance engineering technical support when failure symptoms have been detected, in order to develop the actions required to prevent a failure.
Provide on-site, maintenance engineering technical support following a failure, in order to have assets returned to running condition as soon as possible, with a reduced likelihood of a reoccurrence.
Conduct/coordinate engineering field assessments and/or integrity assessment to make sure the assets are running without defects.
Support operations and execution teams to conduct Continuous Improvement Projects related to operating or maintaining assets. Makes recommendations for improving the repair cycle on assets. This includes applying existing engineered solutions or Vale engineering standards.
Conduct initial Engineering screening and scoping for engineering requests at the site.
Supports execution teams to improve productivity and repair cycle times through continuous improvement projects, research of change in technology. Recommend changes to work design (i.e. task lists, Bill of Materials, etc.) based on outcomes of continuous improvement projects.
Lead technical engineering support for site on significant equipment failures to assist execution teams to return equipment to operation as soon as possible and without risk.
Supports execution and planning teams to establish good cost effective maintenance practices with well-defined repair techniques, principles and procedures to enable timely repairs to assets.
Supports the Reliability team with technical expertise as required, in the development of maintenance strategies in their area of responsibility.
Provides maintainability and operability design input to engineering and project teams to ensure components, assets and systems can be maintained (calibrated, repaired, replaced, etc.) as efficiently as possible.
Provides technical support to maintenance teams to support precision maintenance (technical competencies, procedures, tools, documentation, feedback, utilizing data driven decision making) on assets.
Supporting the maintenance management teams to ensure the work packages are executed as per design.
Co-ordinates technical input and writing of scopes of repair on behalf of the maintenance execution team for equipment that is removed, repaired and reinstalled but is not held in inventory. This should typically be for one-off tasks and should not be done for repetitive foreseeable repairs. The maintenance engineer can also leverage internal and external resources to assist in the development of scopes as required.

Education:
The ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate degree in engineering. Technical or trades discipline is required.
Professional Engineering designation is preferred.
Maintenance Reliability Professional and/or Maintenance Management Professional would be preferred.

Experience:
A minimum of 3 to 4 years of experience is required.
Preferred knowledge and understanding of Maintenance Engineer, Project Management, Design, VPS Technical and SAP.

Knowledge and Skills:
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Must be skilled in data analysis and problem solving.
Must have strong organization and time management skills.
Have the ability to influence without authority.
Takes initiative and is able to self-direct to accomplish goals with minimum supervision.
Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
