ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Greenview Regional Waste Scale House Attendant position relates to the Greenview Regional Landfill
Site, located at Little Smoky. The incumbent is to operate the Regional landfill scale house during hours
of operation. This position provides a high level of customer service to commercial customers. Primarily
works inside the scale house but will be required to perform various labor activities to assist in site
maintenance, when necessary.

MAJOR

  • Safely and effectively operate the scale house weight measurement systems, including
the load scales and the electronic data collection systems.

  • Provide accurate information to customers on site or by phone, including but not limited to, fee
schedules, hours of operations, securing loads, material’s accepted for disposal, unloading
directions, and alternative disposal and recycling options.

  • Be familiar with the Code of Practice for Landfills and have knowledge about how to access
information on disposals procedures of different types of waste.

  • Inspect waste loads for compliance with environmental acceptance in accordance with
Alberta Environment and Provincial Health Regulations and Code of Practice.

  • Enforce Greenview Regional safety guidelines for vehicles entering and exiting the facility
and follow procedures for reporting non-compliant drivers.

  • Prepare waste tonnage reports and environmental testing reports, as directed by
Management.

  • Maintain orderly files, both electronic and or paper, in accordance with the
management systems.

  • Develop operating procedures under the direction of Management.
  • Assist the Landfill operator in the operating and site maintenance of the pit / site, when
required.
  • Operate equipment, as required, to assist in site clean-up / maintenance.
  • Monitor site for hazards.
  • Report all safety concerns or infractions to the Direct Supervisor.
MINOR

  • Perform minor maintenance on equipment, and assist Mechanics as required when on Site.
  • Assist the Environmental Services Department with other tasks as requested by the Manager,
Environmental Services.

QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
  • Grade 12 diploma
  • Ability to interact well with, and respond to inquiries from direct supervisor, co- workers,
management, and all parties utilizing Regional waste system.
  • One (1) year equipment operation experience preferred.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Computer experience and office experience
SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Ability to interact well with people, and respond to inquiries from all parties utilizing Regional
Waste system.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Basic record keeping skills and computer familiarity.
  • Equipment operating experience
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHISYCAL ENVIRONMENT:
  • Moderate to medium physical effort; occasional light lifting.
  • Subject to working in outdoor environment – heat, cold, dry, and dusty and wet conditions as well
as insects, bees and wildlife.
  • Working alone in a rural area.

  • Ensures all operations are conducted in a safe manner and in accordance with Municipal
District Policies and Occupational Health & Safety Regulations.

  • Required to wear correct Personal Protective Equipment as per safe job procedures.
