Category Overview – RTD:
The Mark Anthony Group pioneered the flavored malt beverage category in the United States with the launch of Mike’s Hard Lemonade in 1999. Today, Mike’s has achieved iconic brand status and is the category leader having grown around 60% over the past four years while the overall malt beverage business has declined. In 2016, the Company launched White Claw Hard Seltzer, once again redefining the RTD/flavoured beer category in the United States by tapping into the needs of a more health conscious, ingredient focused millennial consumer. Building on the rise of non-alcoholic sparkling water & seltzer brands that were stealing share from traditional carbonated soft drinks, White Claw offered a similar concept within alcohol beverage. Brewed from sugar, White Claw Hard Seltzer is a 100 calorie, low carb, gluten-free, sparkling alcohol water that is clear in colour and made with just a hint of natural fruit flavour. Available in 355ml/12oz slim Cans across 6 flavours, White Claw has pioneered the development of this new alcohol beverage category, now the fastest growing alcohol category in the United States. Despite fierce competition from the world’s largest alc beverage companies and their various hard seltzer products, Mark Anthony has grown its share of this category to over 50% or 12m cases, with triple digit sales growth forecast for the year to come.
Category Overview – Spirits:
Although Mark Anthony has extensive experience within the spirits category, through our brand development team in Dublin, our acquisition of a large stake in Glendalough Distillery and our Canadian affiliates distribution of premium international spirit brands, the business has only recently begun developing of our own portfolio of premium spirit brands. However, like our RTD business, Mark Anthony is intent on challenging from the outset. Our first release, BEARFACE Tripe Oak Canadian Whisky was launched in Canada in September of last year and surpassed its 12-month sales forecast in its first quarter. In addition, the brand won a Gold Medal of Excellence & the coveted ‘Best New Whisky’ at last January’s Canadian Whisky Awards. BEARFACE will be launched in the US in spring of this year through Mark Anthony Crafted Spirits, a new national sales division, created for the sole purpose of building our proprietary spirits portfolio.
