The Building Service Worker position is responsible for providing custodial care, cleaning and daily maintenance for three library locations.

To ensure success in delivering our service model you have:
- A Building Service Worker Certificate, WHMIS Certification and a considerable knowledge of facility management, principles, practices and procedures, including knowledge of building systems, maintenance, and safety regulations
- Experience in a building maintenance environment
- Sound knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations
- Superior interpersonal skills that enable you to deal effectively and courteously with the public; strengthen the library’s ability to respond to diverse customer and staff needs; and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues

Job Duties
Sweeps, washes, waxes and polishes floors; cleans hallways, furniture and related areas; collects and disposes of refuse and recycling; washes hand basins, sinks, toilets and tile work, and replenishes supplies in washrooms; cleans windows, doors, glass partitions and painted surfaces.
- Performs minor maintenance and repair work; dismantles and assembles shelves, desks and other furniture.
- Sets up tables and chairs and other furniture for scheduled events or activities.
- Assist in the coordination of an appropriate level of supplies to library branches avoiding shortages, overstocking and emergency orders.
- Maintains oral and written communications with other Building Service Workers, contractors, supervisor and staff.
- Identifies and promptly reports problems requiring maintenance assistance or repair to a supervisor or manager.
- Monitors work quality and trains as needed.
- Act as a backup for the driver by loading and delivering books and related materials between various library branches.
- Performs related work as required
Job Qualifications
- Sound knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in janitorial work.
- Sound knowledge of routine building and equipment maintenance and minor repair tasks.
- Some knowledge of computer equipment and software applications used in office environment.
- Ability to understand and follow non-complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public and staff.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to perform simple repair and maintenance tasks.
- Skill in the use of cleaning and maintenance supplies and equipment.
- Sufficient physical strength and coordination to lift and move books, supplies and other material.
Desirable Training and Experience
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, plus sound related experience including the knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in custodial work.
Required Licenses, Certificates and Registrations
- Building Service Worker Certificate.
- WHMIS certification.
- Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia.

Rate of Pay
$28.90 - $33.83 per hour
Schedule
Re-assignments of weekly schedule or daily shift and/or location will take place as operational needs dictate. The initial schedule is as follows:
Sunday: 11:00am - 6:30pm
Monday: 4:00pm - 11:30pm
Tuesday: 4:00pm - 11:30pm
Wednesday: 4:00pm - 11:30pm
Thursday: 4:00pm - 11:30pm
Friday/Saturday REST DAYS
