Community Living Sarnia-Lambton (CLSL) is a charitable not-for-profit unionized organization dedicated to enriching the lives of people who have an intellectual disability. With over 250 employees and 50 volunteers, CLSL currently provides supports and services to more than 300 participants and their families that promote individual choice and life goal achievement.
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Developmental Support Worker with specialized expertise in supporting individuals with severe behaviors. As a Developmental Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in providing personalized care, implementing behavior management strategies, and promoting the overall well-being of individuals with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviors.
Position Summary:
CLSL is seeking Assistant Support Counsellors for our behaviour residential homes, who will assist participants to achieve their personal goals and outcomes, foster independence and enable them to actively participate in all aspects of community life. This position will:
- Provide direct support to individuals with severe behaviors in residential settings.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans based on the specific needs and goals of each individual.
- Utilize evidence-based practices and behavior management strategies to address challenging behaviors effectively.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including psychologists, therapists, and social workers, to develop comprehensive intervention plans.
- Monitor and document individual progress, behaviors, and incidents according to established protocols.
- Implement positive reinforcement techniques and assist individuals in acquiring new skills to promote independence and personal growth.
- Offer crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to manage challenging situations safely.
- Support individuals in daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication administration, and household tasks.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes socialization and community integration.
- Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and severe behaviors
Schedule: This role requires availability for pre-scheduled shifts, as well as call-ins during the day weekends, nights, days, afternoons and evenings. While most shifts fall within these hours, there may be occasional need for flexibility to meet individual needs.
Position Requirements:
- Education in developmental disabilities or human services (e.g., DSW, SSW, CYW, ECE, FSW, PSW).
- Knowledge and experience using behavior management techniques, positive reinforcement strategies, and crisis intervention methods.
- Preferred previous experience in various support setting(s) with proven ability to support persons who have autism, developmental disability, dual diagnosis, physical and sensory challenges, or who are medically fragile or technically dependent
- Valid “G” Driver’s License
- Current Standard First Aid and C.P.R. certificate, C.P.I. Certification, or be willing to obtain upon hire.
- A clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector screening.
