About the Position
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Civil Litigation Law Clerk to join our legal team. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience in civil litigation and a strong understanding of Ontario court procedures.
The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of independently managing files while working closely with counsel. This is an excellent opportunity for a clerk who enjoys the fast-paced nature of litigation and wants to take an active role in the management of files from commencement through resolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage civil litigation files from initial retainer through settlement or trial.
- Draft and prepare correspondence, pleadings, affidavits, motion materials, briefs, notices, and other legal documents.
- Prepare and assist with drafting court materials.
- Assist with preparation and organization of Affidavits of Documents, Lists of Documents, productions, undertakings, refusals, and documentary disclosure.
- Coordinate examinations for discovery, discoveries, mediations, settlement conferences, motions, and other litigation events.
- Prepare and maintain litigation timelines, limitation dates, court deadlines, and undertakings.
- Coordinate service and filing of court documents through appropriate electronic filing systems.
- Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court staff, process servers, experts, insurers, and other third parties.
- Conduct basic legal and procedural research as required.
- Maintain accurate electronic and physical files.
- Monitor incoming correspondence and ensure timely follow-up.
- Assist with docketing, billing, accounts, and general file administration.
- Other administrative and litigation-related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of civil litigation law clerk experience.
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure and Ontario court processes.
- Strong understanding of civil litigation procedures, including pleadings, motions, discoveries, productions, examinations, mediation, settlement conferences, and trial preparation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple files and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and proactively anticipate counsel's needs.
- Strong proofreading and drafting skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Outlook.
- Experience uploading and managing Case Centre is a must.
- Law Clerk diploma or equivalent legal experience is preferred.

Strong attention to detail is essential. You should be comfortable working on urgent matters, preparing court materials under tight deadlines, and managing multiple competing priorities.
Pay: Up to $65,000.00 per year
