Banquet Porter
Reports to: Banquet and Catering Manager, Banquet Captain

Position Purpose:
Responsible for setting up functions rooms and reception areas with chairs, tables, stages and other equipment in accordance with Sheraton Standards.
Authority:
Day-to-Day Operations:
- Greet guests with a friendly smile
- Set up all meeting rooms as per customer requests
- Clean out rooms at the end of function and re set rooms for next function
- Transport tables, chairs platform between storage areas and function rooms
- For each set up and takedown
- Pick up and remove linen
- Ensure all banquet rooms and storage areas clean keeping with company standards
- Clearing tables and separating dishware
- Install dance floors
- Ensure all house phones in all meeting rooms
- Provide quick service for last minute changes
- Report any deficiencies to supervisor
- Ensure banquet check list is completed on daily basis
- Ensure all exits and hallways are free from tables and chairs and other objects
- Perform any other duties as required by management to ensure customer service

Health and Safety:
Under the OHSA, Banquet Porters are required to ensure that:
- Employees work in the manner and with the protective devices, measure and procedures required.
- Employees use or wear the equipment, PPE or clothing required by the Sheraton Ottawa Hotel.
- Employees are advised of the existence of any potential or actual danger to their well being of which the supervisor is aware.
- Where prescribed, employees are provided with written instructions as to the measures and procedures to be taken for their protection.
- Every reasonable precaution is taken for the protection of the employee and guest.
Daily, Banquet Porters are to reinforce and demonstrate a positive ‘Health & Safety’ attitude and working climate. Banquet Porters are expected to report, investigate and properly document all incidents and injuries to employees and guests, as well as any property damage or loss of process as a result of the incident.
Physical Demands for this position:
- Most work tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems.
- Some work tasks may be performed off property at a 3rd party location.
- Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length.
- Must be able to exert well-paced ability to maneuver between functions occurring simultaneously.
- Must be able to exert well-paced ability in limited space and to reach other departments of the hotel on a timely basis.
- Must be able to bend, squat and lift up to 100 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
- Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
- All lifting will be within reason. The employer will make every effort to ensure that the associate is protected from injury (ex. PPE).
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks.
- Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
- Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
- Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
- Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
