OPEN TO THE PUBLICThe Registered Nurse II is responsible for the day-to-day management of the nursing unit. Supervises and collaborates with Resident Care Workers (RCW), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN’s), and other health professionals. The primary purpose of this nursing position is to supervise and manage the provision of current best practice, highest quality, holistic, person centered and family focussed nursing care delivery.Duties will include: -supervising and coordinating the nursing activities of the unit on an assigned shift;-monitoring the ongoing physical, psycho-social, emotional and spiritual needs of residents/patients;-inspecting methods and quality of patient┐s care to ensure adherence to clinical standards;-providing direct patient care as necessary and performing skilled nursing duties;-conducting nursing care plans and unit conferences;-monitoring, observing and recording the patients response to nursing care and treatment;-assisting the physician and other members of the health care team as needed;-monitoring the performance of LPNs/RCWs to ensure that all activities are in adherence to Person Centered Care philosophy;-conducting performance appraisals with LPNs/RCWs;-assisting in the orientation of new staff and field students;-identifying the educational needs of the nursing staff;-assessing learning needs and providing instruction to residents/patients and their families;-controlling and administering prescribed medication;-completing and maintaining facility records and forms;-staffing the facility as required;-other duties as necessary. Bi-Weekly Hours: 0.0 hours bi-weekly on call basis
Qualifications
  • Applicants must have a University BN or Bachelor of Science degree from an approved school of nursing program or a diploma from an approved school of nursing and some experience in a Long Term Care and Acute Care setting.-Active or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Prince Edward Island.-Recent nursing experience at the supervisor or management level would be required. -Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem solving skills and judgement.-Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with residents/patients, family and staff is required.-The successful applicant must have a good previous work and attendance record.Other Qualifications: -Supervisory experience is considered an asset.-Experience in palliative care, convalescent/restorative care and geriatric care would be considered an asset.Note: The collaborative care model on PEI is a province-wide initiative that will involve service delivery changes in all areas of the health system including acute care, long term care, home care, and primary health care. This model sees teams of providers working collaboratively to their full scope of practice to ensure the patient’s, client’s, or resident’s needs are met in a coordinated, consistent, and timely matter. The collaborative care model has not yet been implemented in all unit/work sites.
