About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a woman in her early stages of dementia living with her daughter's family in Shelburne. She's physically healthy and independent with daily tasks—she can dress herself, use the washroom, and manage her own space in the basement suite. However, she's experiencing some memory changes, like occasionally not associating names with familiar faces, and she's spending long hours alone during the day. What she needs most right now is companionship and engagement to help combat loneliness and support her cognitive health. She's calm, friendly, very chatty, and has no behavioral issues. This is the family's first time arranging professional care, and they're looking for someone who can build a genuine connection with their mom.
Responsibilities:
- Provide warm, engaging companionship and conversation
- Encourage cognitive stimulation through activities, games, or reminiscing
- Support light meal preparation such as reheating food and providing reminders
- Accompany her on outings like walks or errands to keep her active and socially engaged
- Monitor her well-being and communicate any changes or concerns to the family
- Help maintain a consistent routine to provide structure and comfort
What We're Looking For:
- Experience working with seniors, particularly those with early-stage dementia or memory changes
- A calm, patient, and positive demeanor
- Strong communication skills and reliability
- Someone who takes initiative and respects the client's independence
- Ability to build trust and make the client feel comfortable and valued
- English-speaking
Schedule:
Starting with two visits per week, two hours per visit, with flexibility to increase hours after the first two weeks based on how things are going. The family is looking to begin care the week of July 6th. Preferred visit times are during weekday afternoons when the client is home alone. The family will be present during the first week to help with introductions and ensure everyone is comfortable, then will step back to allow the caregiver and client to build their relationship.
This is a wonderful opportunity to make a meaningful difference in someone's life by providing the companionship and support that truly enhances quality of life.
