Position Overview:
The Associate Director of Clinical Services (RPN) is accountable to the Director of Clinical Services and is responsible for providing quality resident care and supervises the care team. The Associate Director of Clinical Services (RPN) will oversee care in a safe, efficient manner with attention to all procedures and policies. This position assesses daily resident care needs, develops and distributes resident care assignments appropriately. Provides input for written staff evaluations in conjunction with the Director of Clinical Services or designate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plans, directs, coordinates and supervises the overall nursing program for residents within the home when DOCS is out of the building.
- Promotes resident satisfaction and continuous quality improvement.
- Promotes a positive team spirit within the nursing department and home.
- Advocates on behalf of the residents when necessary.
- Maintains contact with residents/families to ensure a high quality of care.
- Review all resident applications for admission to determine appropriate level of care. Liaises with discharge planners, LHIN and families for appropriate placement. Assist with processing of admission and discharge papers when DOCS is out of building or as assigned.
- Monitors control and safekeeping of drugs and narcotics. Supervises the medication administration program including the administration of medication by all registered staff.
- Participates in Care Conferences as appropriate, meets with residents’ families to resolve problems/concerns/complaints.
- Evaluates nursing staff performance by completing annual and probation performance appraisals, and others as deemed necessary. RPN to assist with these tasks.
- Participates in labour/management issues, eg: grievance procedures and labour management relations.
- Monitors the Palliative Care and Pain and Symptom Management Program in collaboration with the Palliative Care and Pain and Symptoms Management Coordinator.
- Assists with preparing the Nursing Department for accreditation.
- Maintains and upgrades nursing knowledge and skills through ongoing courses and seminars and/or through self-study.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Licensed Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in good standing with College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Minimum 1 year of supervised experience as an RPN is an asset.
- Current CPR Certification required.
- Knowledgeable regarding the nursing process and its application, including the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.
- High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.
Physical Requirements:
- Lifting alone, maximum 50 lbs (5-25 lbs usual) as an essential job function.
- Lifting with assistance, maximum 160 lbs (100-150 lbs usual) as an essential job function.
- Pushing/pulling, using wheeled equipment such as cart, trolleys, with contents that weight a maximum 100 lbs (20-50 lbs usual) as an essential job function.
- Walking, with possibly some upstairs walking, to a maximum of 3 hours (1-2 hours usual) as an essential job function.
- Bending/stooping on a regular frequency throughout the shift as a non-essential job function.
