Farrell’s Excavating Ltd. has an opportunity available for a Construction Safety Officer located near St. John's, Newfoundland. Travel within Newfoundland is required for projects.
Farrell’s Excavating has been providing service in the heavy civil industry of Newfoundland since its incorporation over 30 years ago. We play a major role in the completion of many large government and municipal projects that involve the building and paving of many of the province's main highways and rural roads. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Address all safety concerns brought forward by all site personnel.
- Accident investigations for all accidents, incidents, near misses or injuries. Ensuring all incidents are properly recorded and the correct actions are recommended and completed.
- Prepare, review, and monitor site-specific safety plans, hazard assessments, safety checklists, risk assessments, etc.
- Perform on-site safety orientation for all employees.
- Organize and conduct toolbox meetings.
- Conduct site inspections in conjunction with the foreman and/or superintendent.
- Compile all documentation regarding safety throughout the duration of the project (maintain daily/weekly/monthly reports).
Education & Experience
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety Program, supplemented by related construction work experience would be considered an asset.

- Supervisory Training and/or experience
- Trenching and Excavation
- Fall Protection Training
- Confined Space
- Development and implementation of safe work practices and procedures.
- Hazard Recognition Evaluation, inspections, analysis, and control.
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance and inspections.
- Understanding, knowledge, and familiarity with Site-Specific Safety Plans.
Job Type: Full-time
Contract length: 6 months
Pay: $20.00-$30.00 per hour
