Job Description:
We are looking for a hands-on, customer-focused Assistant Store Manager – Hardware to support the day-to-day operations of our busy retail environment. This role is ideal for a natural leader who thrives on the sales floor, enjoys coaching a team, and has a passion for hardware, tools, and home improvement projects.
As the Assistant Manager, you will play a key role in driving sales, maintaining high merchandising standards, and delivering an exceptional customer experience. You will lead by example, support team development, and act as Manager-on-Duty in the absence of the Store Manager.
Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Development
· Provide daily leadership, coaching, and direction to store team members.
· Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of new employees.
· Assist in scheduling to ensure optimal floor coverage and customer service.
· Foster a positive, engaged, and accountable team environment.
· Address employee concerns, recognize performance, and manage discipline when required.
Operations & Store Performance
· Act as Manager-on-Duty in the absence of the Store Manager.
· Support the achievement of sales targets, margins, and overall store profitability.
· Monitor daily operations and proactively address challenges.
· Ensure store equipment, systems, and facilities are maintained and fully operational.
· Promote a safe work environment and ensure compliance with all safety standards.
Merchandising & Inventory
· Execute and maintain strong merchandising standards within the hardware department.
· Ensure shelves, endcaps, and promotional displays are fully stocked, organized, and visually appealing.
· Monitor inventory levels and communicate replenishment needs.
· Support pricing accuracy and inventory control processes.
Customer Experience
· Lead from the floor—actively engaging customers and supporting the team during peak periods.
· Provide knowledgeable advice on hardware products, tools, and home improvement solutions.
· Resolve customer concerns professionally and efficiently.
· Set the standard for service excellence and sales-driven interactions.
· Communication & Continuous Improvement
· Act as a key link between management and staff, ensuring clear and consistent communication.
· Identify opportunities to improve operations, customer experience, and team performance.
· Contribute ideas for promotions, store events, and traffic-driving initiatives.
Skills and Qualifications:
· Proven leadership ability with a hands-on, team-first approach.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to multitask and perform in a fast-paced retail environment.
· Flexible availability (days, evenings, weekends, and holidays).
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· 2–3 years of retail experience; hardware or home improvement experience is a strong asset.
· Solid understanding of merchandising and sales principles.
· Comfortable using POS systems and retail technology.
· Bilingualism (French/English) is considered an asset.
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and remain active on the sales floor for extended periods
Working relationships:
· Reports directly to the Store Manager.
