We are currently searching for a Disability and Return to Work Specialist. This 15-month contract position covering a maternity leave. The role is based at Corporate Office and reports directly to the Manager, Disability management.
our staff based out of corporate office have not returned to the site at this time, however the intention is to continue having staff work remotely with partial visits into the office in near future indefinitely. In August 2021, corporate office is relocating to the Town of Caledon, near Bolton Ontario.

The primary responsibility of this role is to:
Provide internal clients in Retail and Logistics with “one stop” point of contact for professional disability case management which includes:
“Co-ownership” of occupational and non-occupational active disability cases with the client departments.
Proactive consultation/guidance to clients with respect to workplace injury or illness for the purpose of preventing or mitigating claims.
“Hands on” strategic and tactical management of claim files for both work related claims and non-work-related illness/impairment claims, with a goal of early return to productive work.
Energetic co-management of modified duty accommodation cases with the aim of maximizing the employee’s contribution in the workplace.
Support internal customers by establishing a helpful, responsive and collaborative relationship to ensure their service needs are understood and effectively met.
Liaise with other business units concerning injury/illness reporting, accident investigations, learning information, employee capabilities/restrictions and absence management.
Main point of contact for WSIB (Ontario) and the Company’s group benefits insurance provider with respect to disability claims.
The ideal candidate will have:
Post-secondary education in Human Resources or related with 5 or more years of recent experience specializing in absence/disability management
Must possess or be working towards a Disability Management Certificate (CDMP or CRTWC part of CSPDM)
Working knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and effects of illness/injury on physiology. Must have an understanding of WCB claims
Ability to understand functional information/Return to work (RTW) barriers and their correlation to suitable work assignments
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Analysis and problem-solving skills to manage confliction resolution
Proficiency in the Parklane or similar Health & Safety software and MS Office programs such as Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point
Experience with ergonomics would be an asset
Comprehensive knowledge of TBS/BDL and insurance company policies, as well as applicable legislation and interpretation of sections of collective agreements pertinent to disability benefits would be an asset
