Purpose
Reporting to the Director of Care, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) plays a key role in delivering safe, effective, and resident-centered nursing care at Embassy West Senior Living. The RPN is responsible for providing planned, goal-directed care in accordance with applicable legislation, College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) standards, Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority (RHRA) requirements, and organizational policies.
The RPN supports resident well-being through comprehensive assessment, direct care, medication administration, and treatment, while ensuring timely and accurate communication with the interdisciplinary care team. Practicing within their scope, the RPN works independently when resident outcomes are predictable and risks are low, and collaborates closely with the Director of Care and nursing staff to optimize care, promote safety, and maintain regulatory compliance.
This role contributes directly to the overall quality of care and quality of life for residents by ensuring a compassionate, respectful, and clinically sound approach to nursing practice.

Schedule & Availability Requirements
This position requires flexibility to meet operational and resident care needs. Nursing services operate twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week. The successful candidate must be available to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays, in accordance with operational requirements and the provisions of the CUPE Collective Agreement.
**The current vacancies are for shifts scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.and 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.Please note that, due to operational and resident care needs, employees may occasionally be required to work alternate shifts, including 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.**

Key Responsibility(s):
The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is responsible for:
- Providing planned, resident-centered, goal-directed nursing care in accordance with CNO standards and organizational policies
- To complete and ensure resident’s care assessment, care/service plans and documentation are accurate, up to date and changes communicated as required.
- To provide direct resident care and medication / treatment administration and document care in compliance with regulatory Resident Care standards and policies and procedures.
- Monitors and provides guidance to Personal Support Workers (PSWs) and Unregulated Care Providers (UCP) in the provision of nursing care within an assigned work area.
- Notifies the Director of Care of any resident concerns and changes in medical condition.
- To respond to and manage significant changes in resident’s condition and / or medical emergencies; provide emergency first aid.
- To process Physicians orders and safe keep drugs and narcotics and administer in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- To respond to resident / family concerns and ensure appropriate action taken and / or concern communicated to DOC / Executive Director and other departments
- To Perform head to toe assessment.
- To complete all other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Valid Nursing Liability Insurance.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and First Aid certification
- Experience in a Retirement Home, Long-Term Care, or acute care setting preferred
- Demonstrated experience in medication administration (including IM, SQ, PICC/CADD)
- Strong knowledge of nursing practices, clinical assessments, and documentation standards
- Demonstrated understanding of resident-centered care and geriatric population needs
- Strong communication, leadership, critical thinking, and organizational skills
- Experience with electronic medical records (e.g., PointClickCare, OSCAR)
- Immunization records and TB test results as required
- Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening (within 6 months)
- Valid N95 mask fit test certificate
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role
