Job Summary
A private family in Vancouver is seeking an experienced, reliable, energetic and caring full-time Home Child Care Provider/Nanny to care for two young children: an infant (<1 year old) and a preschool-aged child (2.5 years old).
The caregiver will provide attentive childcare in the family's home and assist with the children's daily routines, transportation, activities and age-appropriate development. The position includes morning daycare preparation and transportation and afternoon/evening childcare.
The family travels internationally several times per year, including annual travel to Europe, Asia and several trips to the United States to visit extended family. The nanny must be willing and able to accompany the family on these trips as required.
This is primarily a childcare position. Household duties are limited to light duties related to the children.
Hours and Working Conditions
The regular schedule is Monday through Friday on a split shift: 8:00-9:00 a.m. and 1:30-7:30 p.m.
Regular paid working time is 7 hours per day and around 35 hours per week.
The employee is completely off duty between 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and is not responsible for childcare or other work during this period.
The employee will work primarily at the employer's private residence in Vancouver, British Columbia, and will accompany the children to daycare, activities and local outings as required.
International travel is a regular component of the position. The family travels several times per year, including annual travel to destinations in Europe, Asia and the United States. Travel dates and duration will vary and will be communicated in advance where reasonably possible.
Any additional hours worked, including additional hours required during family travel, will be recorded and compensated in accordance with applicable British Columbia employment standards.
This is not a mandatory live-in position. Accommodation is not a condition of employment.
Vacation pay, statutory holidays, overtime and other employment standards will be provided in accordance with British Columbia law.
Responsibilities
· Provide attentive and responsible care for two young children, including an infant.
· Provide age-appropriate infant care, including feeding, bottle preparation and cleaning, diapering, naps, soothing and developmental activities.
· Maintain a safe, nurturing and developmentally appropriate environment for both children to support growth in language acquisition, fine/gross motor skills, social development and emotional awareness
· Prepare and serve healthy, age-appropriate meals and snacks for the children in accordance with parental instructions, including age-appropriate infant feeding practices.
· Proactively plan and participate in age-appropriate activities including reading, crafts, imaginative play, outdoor play, walks and developmental activities.
· Discuss, develop and support achievement of development plan for each child, which is based on common childhood development milestones which are updated every 6 months. Support the children's social, emotional, language and behavioural development using positive and age-appropriate approaches.
· Follow established family routines relating to meals, naps and activities.
· Drive children to and from daycare, activities, appointments and local outings as required.
· Accompany the older child to recreational activities, including swimming lessons, and safely supervise the child in and around water.
· Provide age-appropriate introductory French-language exposure as the older child prepares for French immersion.
· Accompany the family on domestic and international travel, including trips to Europe, Asia and the United States, and provide childcare during family travel.
· Adapt to changes in children's routines, schedules and accommodations while travelling.
· Maintain children's play and eating areas and perform light housekeeping related to the children.
· Wash and organize children's clothing, bedding, bottles, dishes and other childcare items.
· Communicate regularly with parents regarding the children's activities, routines, development and any concerns.
· Assume responsibility for the children's care and safety when parents are unavailable.
Essential Requirements
· Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
· At least 1 year of recent professional childcare experience with young children.
· Professional experience and demonstrated comfort caring for infants, including feeding, diapering, naps and age-appropriate infant routines.
· Experience caring for toddlers or preschool-aged children.
· Comfortable caring for two children of different ages.
· Fluent spoken English and ability to communicate effectively with parents, children, daycare staff and activity providers.
· Valid driver's licence and safe driving record; knowledge of, or ability to become familiar with, BC driving laws and Vancouver-area roads.
· Willing and able to regularly drive children to daycare, appointments and activities.
· Comfortable and competent swimming and supervising young children safely in and around water.
· Willing and able to accompany the family on domestic and international travel, including regular trips to Europe, Asia and the United States.
· Able to obtain and maintain travel documents and entry authorizations reasonably necessary for the family's regular international destinations.
· Comfortable providing childcare while travelling and adapting to changes in children's routines and schedules.
· Demonstrated patience, reliability, sound judgment and ability to work independently and proactively
· Ability to provide positive and professional childcare references.
· Ability to successfully complete a criminal record/vulnerable sector check as appropriate for the position.
· First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain certification before commencing employment.
Preferred Qualifications / Assets
· Basic conversational French and ability to provide introductory French-language exposure to a young child preparing for French immersion.
· Familiarity with Montessori principles or methods.
· Post-secondary education or training in child development, early childhood education, education, social work, behavioural support or a related field.
· Experience supporting children's behavioural, developmental or special needs.
· Experience caring for multiple children of different ages.
· Experience travelling professionally with children.
