Join our vibrant Uplift Summer Camp, hosted by Oasis of Grace Family and Multicultural Centre in Calgary, AB! We’re seeking a creative Arts and Crafts Instructor to inspire youth aged 9–15 through fun, hands-on workshops.
Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents aged 18–30, passionate about sparking imagination and personal growth.
Position Overview
The Media Studio Instructor will teach campers ages 10 to 15 the fundamentals of digital storytelling, photography, videography, graphic design, audio production, and content creation. This role blends hands-on media instruction with digital content development for Oasis of Grace's official social media platforms. The instructor will also guide Group B campers (ages 13 to 15) in building a live digital portfolio website using Canva Sites or Google Sites as the centrepiece of their camp experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach campers beginner-friendly skills in graphic design and branding (Canva, logos, colour palettes, slogans), photography (framing, lighting, creative composition), videography (storyboarding, filming, directing, editing), short-form content creation (Reels, TikTok-style clips, YouTube basics), podcasting and audio production (recording, editing, collaboration), website creation (simple Canva websites or digital portfolios), and interactive learning tools (Gimkit, Kahoot).
- Lead campers through creative studio projects including mini documentaries, photo storytelling challenges, weekly recap videos, digital poster creation, studio interviews, and creative storytelling pieces.
- Guide Group B campers (ages 13 to 15) in building a live digital portfolio website over 6 weeks, including site setup, page structure, weekly content uploads, and final launch with QR code for the Grand Showcase.
- Capture high-quality photos and videos of camp activities daily. Edit and produce content for Oasis of Grace's social media accounts. Post updates, highlights, reels, and weekly video recaps.
- Maintain a well-organized digital archive of photos, videos, and audio files.
- Guide campers in producing end-of-week media projects. Organize a Media Showcase for parents, staff, and campers.
- Set up, maintain, and organize all media studio equipment. Troubleshoot basic technical issues and manage backups of media files.
- Promote safe and responsible online and media behaviour. Supervise campers during classroom activities, transitions, lunch periods, outdoor play, and end-of-day clean-up.
- During pre-camp week (July 6 to 10): Set up media studio, test equipment, create Canva account templates for Group B, develop 6-week curriculum, and establish social media content calendar.
- During post-camp week (Aug 24 to 28): Finalize digital archive, compile camp highlight reel, complete camper reports, and provide recommendations for 2027 media programming.
Qualifications Required
- Experience in photography, videography, graphic design, digital media, or content creation.
- Experience teaching or mentoring youth ages 9 to 15.
- Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
- Creative, patient, and enthusiastic about working with youth.
- Knowledge of safe media practices, especially when photographing or recording minors.
- Clear Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education or coursework in media, communications, graphic design, or a related field.
- Experience managing personal or organizational social media accounts.
- Familiarity with Canva, mobile editing apps, podcasting tools, and video editing software.
