Family Law Associate (Junior / Intermediate) — Lexaltico LLP
Location: Peel or Halton Region, Ontario · Hybrid
Salary: $60,000–$80,000, plus biannual performance bonuses
Lexaltico LLP is growing our family law practice and looking for a junior associate (1–3 years' call) licensed to practise in Ontario. This is a hybrid role combining in-office collaboration with the flexibility to work remotely. Candidates must be based out of Toronto, Peel, or Halton Region.
What you'll do
- Conduct case law and legal research, and prepare memos on family law issues
- Draft pleadings, motions, affidavits, financial statements, factums, separation agreements, parenting plans, and correspondence
- Manage your own files end to end, including limitation dates, deadlines, and client updates
- Carry day-to-day case management: scheduling, court forms, undertakings, and follow-ups
- Prepare for and attend examinations for discovery
- Attend and support case conferences, settlement conferences, motions, and negotiations
- Attend trials and hearings alongside lead counsel, assisting with preparation, witnesses, and exhibits
- Manage electronic court filings and document sharing through CaseLines / Case Center
- Prepare and organize document briefs, books of authorities, and trial records
- Liaise with clients, opposing counsel, the court, and third parties
- Assist senior counsel on complex files and contribute to overall matter strategy
Must-haves
- Licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (1–3 years' call)
- Based out of Peel or Halton Region
- A strong drive and the ambition to become excellent at your craft
- Family law experience 1+ years post articling experience.
- Excellent legal drafting, research, and analytical skills
- Strong written and verbal communication, with sound client-facing judgment
- Meticulous attention to detail and well-organized file management
- Ability to manage competing deadlines and work both independently and as part of a team
- Professionalism, discretion, and high ethical standards
- A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset and willingness to take ownership
- Familiarity with CaseLines / Case Center and Ontario family court procedure an asset
