The Nurse Educator formulates, executes, and evaluates educational initiatives for the nursing profession of the ROHCG, in keeping with our corporate strategic plan, mission, vision and values. These initiatives aim to bolster both front-line nurses, enabling them to acquire and maintain the knowledge, skills and capabilities required for their job duties. The incumbent will be responsible for promoting safe standards in keeping with best practices and support quality of patient care.
Duties:
Accountability #1: Education

Evaluates learning needs and professional standards within clinical nursing practice to guarantee that patient care is evidence-based and current. This would include identifying/addressing performance gaps, meeting individual/organizational objectives, and staying informed of developments in evidence-based practice

Formulates educational programs to meet identified learning needs

Designs educational programs and materials rooted in nursing or related science

Encourages accountability and opportunities for continuous learning and professional growth
- Assesses the framework, execution and achievements of learning activities
- Evaluate the impact of educational activities on patient care

Delivers education and resources to employees at every level across all units within the facility

Collaborates with APN’s on educational programs and initiatives
-
Guarantees that staff members are trained adequately in patient care, equipment usage, and procedural tasks within units
- Manages all education- related records and databases within assigned units and produces necessary reports when needed
- Offers nurses clear and constructive feedback, along with necessary guidance and remediation to enhance their performance
- Evaluates the necessity for continual staff education in accordance with new findings in treatments and practices
- Act as a clinical resource by providing consultation and clinical support to the interdisciplinary care team

Participates in continued educational activities
- Selects appropriate teaching methodologies to deliver material

Educates and supports front line staff with documentation on Meditech and WebAmb

Guides and assists staff members in cultivating their professional roles and honing their skills
- Refers staff performance concerns to the managers of the units

Serves as an exemplary role model maintaining elevated standards of professional conduct with patients and other members of the multi-disciplinary team
- Fosters a positive environment that enables all staff to work effectively
- Supports in staff retention by motivating and empowering others to reach their full potential
- Offer leadership and employ specialized theory and knowledge relevant to designated patient populations to enhance the provision of safe, ethical and high quality care
- Promotes the exploration of knowledge and fosters professional integration by offering guidance, mentorship, serving as a role model, and encouraging learners to cultivate self-direction and creativity in their learning endeavors

Qualifications:
-
Four year degree in Nursing
-
Masters degree in Nursing or Health related discipline
- Registration with RNAO preferred
-
CPR training or re-certification within the last 12 months.
- Three to Five years experience required
-
Proven capability to guide change and assist staff during periods of transition both on the unit and off
-
Previous experience in a teaching or managerial position
-
Proven understanding of the principles , theories and practices of conceptual models of psychiatric care, encompassing person- and family – centered care, trauma- informed care and the recovery model in mental illness
-
Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act as it applies to the rights and obligations of the patients and staff
-
Requires the capability to lead, supervise, educate and counsel nursing staff in nursing practice and skill enhancement both individually and group basis
-
Has proven to show proficiency in effectively leading a project or initiative
-
Demonstrates effective presentation skills for all learning needs
-
Familiarity with an adeptness in employing adult teaching and learning strategies, integrating educational theories and practice standards efficiently
-
Essential to have knowledge of the current nursing theories, research and practice standards
-
Essential to have thorough knowledge of current and future trends in mental health care
-
Proven capability to handle and or guide others in resolving conflict issues
-
Knowledge of Meditech and WebAmb and able to translate knowledge of these applications
-
Ability to use the available audiovisual equipment
-
Use of computers to perform a variety of tasks i.e. Power point, Excel, Word processing, and outlook

Ability to use all clinical equipment available within the units

Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others

Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally on one to one or within a group setting

Proven capacity to efficiently plan, organize and prioritize tasks

Positive interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across inter-professional groups and with peers across the organization

Demonstrate leadership ability

Ability to work in a self directed manner with minimal supervision

English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
Salary Range:
$41.14 to $58.83 per hour
