DESCRIPTION
The Analytical Chemist is responsible for the development, qualification, and validation of new analytical procedures in the R&D lab.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Development of new analytical procedures for use during the R&D and quality control process, including GC, HPLC, and FTIR methods.
- Write and review SOPs, validation protocols and reports, qualification protocols and reports, and test methods.
- Monitor inventory of raw materials, glassware, chemicals, gases, and solvents and inform the R&D manager when more are required.
- Perform all the applicable analytical testing based on developed product’s specifications and written procedures.
- Collaborating with the Quality and Regulatory departments to ensure adherence to required guidelines.
- Ingredient sourcing, evaluation and cost negotiations.
- Conduct stability test and monitor results of formulas in the development stage. Conduct physical, chemical and organoleptic testing; makes oral and written observations and judgments on process and outcome to provide feedback, perform troubleshooting on unstable formulas.
- Documenting and keeping records of test results, specifications, stability studies and procedures in a standard professional format.
- Understand Regulatory and quality requirements for method development.
- Must adhere to safety standards during laboratory and pilot scale testing.
- Manage multiple projects.
- Timely communication of all information regarding project status, results, etc. to all appropriate individuals respecting the confidential nature of the project.
- Required to perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Medicinal Chemistry.
- Minimum of 5 years of chemistry experience, with preference to those with experience using analytical instruments.
- Familiarity with Gas Chromatography (GC), High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) among other analytical techniques.
- Experience with use of standard lab volumetric equipment including micropipettes and volumetric flasks.
- Strong math skills and proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with the United States Pharmacopeia (USP).
- Familiar with ISO and NHP-GMP production standards and requirements.
- Understanding of Health Canada, Natural Health Products, Cosmetics and FDA regulations.
- Strong communication skills along with the ability to interact effectively with frontline employees, peers, and executives.
Pay: $24.00-$28.00 per hour
