Whimble attendants work one-on-one with clients in their homes and out in the community, supporting real life as it happens — errands, appointments, events, social activities, and everything in between.
Job Summary:
As a personal care attendant with Whimble, you will provide one-on-one, person-centred support to individuals with physical, developmental, and/or mental health disabilities in their daily lives and in the community.
This role is best suited for someone who is highly self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable working independently. Whimble attendants are required to take initiative, apply common sense, and support clients confidently without on-site supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct, hands-on support to individuals with physical, developmental, and/or mental health disabilities, including assistance with daily living activities such as personal care, hygiene, feeding
- Work independently in client homes and community settings, using sound judgment and initiative without constant supervision
- Support clients in building life skills, independence, communication, and social connections
- Safely accompany and support clients in the community, including outings, appointments, errands, recreational activities, and social events
- Feel confident navigating public spaces, transit, and new environments alongside clients
- Proactively identify client needs, anticipate challenges, and respond calmly and effectively
- Implement individualized support plans and behaviour support strategies with consistency and care
- Build positive, respectful relationships with clients and their families
- Take ownership of schedules, responsibilities, and client experiences while remaining reliable and accountable
- Other duties as required to support client wellbeing

Qualifications and skills:
Required:
- Experience supporting individuals with physical, developmental, and/or mental health disabilities, including personal care routines (bathing, bowel and bladder care) involving mechanical lifts, such as Hoyer lifts, ceiling lifts, and other patient lift & transfer equipment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including attentiveness to verbal and non-verbal cues, empathy, patience, a sense of humour, and a positive attitude
- Ability to work independently with strong time management, initiative, accountability, and real-time problem-solving skills
- Comfortable supporting clients in the community, adapting to changing environments, and taking direction from clients during tasks
- Familiarity with conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including mornings, evenings, and weekends, and willingness to pick up shifts on short notice
- Good working knowledge of spoken and written English
- Smartphone with data plan
- Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination (minimum 3 doses)
- A recent negative 1-Step TST or a negative 2-Step TST.
- Proof of valid CPR + First Aid training
- Clear vulnerable sector police check performed within the last 6 months
- Adequate liability insurance coverage for performing standard tasks expected of a personal care attendant
- Eagerness to try something new and help shape an innovative tech startup
Preferred:
- Diploma or education in Developmental Services Worker (DSW), or Personal Support Worker (PSW) with experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
- Access to a reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license is considered a strong asset
- Willingness to transport clients as needed (where applicable)
Compensation:
Services provided through Whimble are compensated at $30/hour. Hours worked are paid out weekly via e-transfer upon receipt of an invoice. Workers are required to provide a Social Insurance Number upon registering and will receive a T4A annually.
Please note: as an independent contractor, you will be responsible for your own income tax and other source deductions. We can connect you with support on this front if you do not already work independently and would like to get set up as an independent contractor for full-time or supplemental income.
