Job Overview
We’re hiring an experienced Excavator Operator (Level 2) to support our field operations. This role requires high-level competency in complex excavation tasks including DSSP trenching, structural demolition, fine grading, and trench setup using laser systems.
Ideal candidates are self-directed, reliable, and capable of reading site drawings and grade stakes, with a strong focus on safety and precision in multi-trade environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate excavators (5T–30T) for:
- DSSP and utility trenching (shallow/deep)
- Structural and foundation demolition
- Bulk excavation, fine grading, and backfilling
- Set up and use single and dual-slope laser systems for grade control
- Read and interpret civil drawings, cut sheets, and grade stakes
- Identify and manage underground/overhead utility conflicts
- Collaborate with crews, foremen, and surveyors to meet design specs
- Perform daily pre-trips and equipment inspections
- Maintain accurate logs and timesheets
- Adhere to and promote safety practices in high-traffic zones
- Assist with rigging, minor tasks, or materials handling when needed
Qualifications
- 3+ years of excavator operation in civil construction, utilities, or demolition
- Required: Experience with DSSP trenching and installation
- Required: Ability to read construction drawings and grade stakes
- Proficient with laser-level systems (single & dual-slope)
- Comfortable with trench boxes, tight-access digs, and slope management
- Valid Class 5 license (Class 3 or Q endorsement an asset)
- Safety tickets such as:
- CSTS
- First Aid
- Ground Disturbance II
- Confined Space Entry (assets but not required)
- Strong communication, time management, and attention to detail
