The Opportunity
We are looking for Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our Prenatal and Family Health team at CUPS.
LOCATION: 1001 10 Ave SW, Calgary, and outreach within the community
REPORTS TO: Team Lead, Clinical Services,
CONTRACT TYPE: Term, 18 month leave coverage
SCHEDULE: Monday to Friday, 40 hours/week
STARTING HOURLY SALARY RATES: $28.43 to $29.84
Key Responsibilities:
As an LPN at CUPS within the Prenatal and Family Health team, you will be responsible for providing trauma-informed nursing care to clients who are potentially experiencing the adverse effects of poverty, trauma and chronic illness. In your role, you will work to the full scope of your LPN practice and assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document all nursing care of patients in accordance with policies and professional nursing standards. You will play a primary role in supporting an integrated and holistic and client centred approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. CUPS LPNs support the creation of safe and trauma informed health environment for clients and their families. This position champions supporting clients within the spectrum or recovery-oriented strategies and patient centered care, ensuring a safe and supportive healthcare environment for all clients. You will provide quality patient care while promoting the shared mission, vision and values of CUPS.
Leadership:
· Create approachable, caring and trauma informed environment for clients accessing CUPS services
· Share nursing expertise with colleagues and client care teams to increase inter-team knowledge and understanding to support positive client health outcomes
· Contribute to safety and wellness of clients, colleagues and visitors by remaining up to date on and adhering to CUPS health & safety protocols
· Work collaboratively with team members within the department and across the organization
· Act as warden for client dignity by ensuring confidential client information is handled with the utmost care and respect in alignment with HIPA and CUPS privacy protocols & values
· Act as ambassador of CUPS mission and values both internally and externally
· Demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based practice through participation in quality improvement work
Organizational Alignment & Primary Duties
· Provide on-going health care in an interdisciplinary team setting to clients with a variety of acute and chronic illnesses/diseases such as mental health and substance use, communicable diseases, and/or general health issues
· Provide trauma informed health care to all patients within the LPN Scope of practice as outlined by the CLPNA practice standards
· Deliver full spectrum recovery oriented and culturally aware health education, supporting clients with system navigation.
· Collaborate within a team-based care model on an interdisciplinary team to deliver excellence in client-centered care.
· Participate in daily huddles to support closed-loop communication and timely delivery of services
· Collaborate with the team to effectively delegate and prioritize client care tasks
· Provide direct care activities such as assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting client care as part of the interdisciplinary team and collaborate with other service providers to establish, maintain and enhance therapeutic relationships based on respect.
· Maintain accurate documentation in alignment with professional standards and CUPS policies.
· All CUPS nurses may be required to support other nursing roles within the health clinic if staffing levels require it to continue clinic operations
Stakeholder Relations:
· Develop and maintain collaborative and accountable working relations with internal CUPS colleagues to strengthen communication flow and cross-program understanding
· Champion CUPS integrated care approach both internally and with agency partners
· Develop and maintain strong external collaborative connections to support client care
· Foster a learning culture that supports ongoing growth and capacity building
· Participate in CUPS committees, community forums, and internal and external collaborations to further enhance and develop CUPS client services
· Share experience and knowledge with students, volunteers and guests interested in CUPS services to further develop CUPS social justice impact & external ambassador network
Prenatal and Family Health Clinic
· Plan and deliver nursing care to clients accessing the Prenatal and Family Health clinic.
· Advocate for women and gender-diverse clients, ensuring access to necessary healthcare services.
· Support family planning, STBBI education, health education, and preventative health measures.
· Provide nursing care, support with system navigation, health teaching including preventative health concepts concerning STBBIs, nutrition, personal hygiene, prenatal care and well-baby care
· Demonstrate patience and understanding for those with addictions and behavioral disorders.
· Analyze challenges, make sound decisions and implement solutions under pressure.
· Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary prenatal and family health team to provide holistic and trauma-informed care
· Participate in triage of incoming referrals, including setting priorities and facilitating referrals to appropriate team members
· Manage multiple priorities effectively, maintaining structure and efficiency in a dynamic work environment
· Develop and maintain strong external partnerships with hospitals, social services, shelters, and other key stakeholders.
· Assist clients in navigating healthcare systems and social supports
· Participate in quality improvement initiatives
· Use of personal vehicle to attend client home visits
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
- Active registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
- 1-3 years of acute-care experience.
- Strong clinical and physical assessment skills, including experience with mental health assessments.
- Current First Aid & CPR certification.
- Ability to perform phlebotomy
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse clients and interdisciplinary teams.
- Proven critical thinking and independent decision-making skills.
- Alignment with full spectrum of recovery oriented strategies, from safer use to abstinence and Trauma-Informed Care principles.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Telus Collaborative Health Record (CHR) EMR
- Experience working with substance use, mental health, and structurally marginalized populations.
- Familiarity with Calgary’s acute care services and confidence in navigating Emergency departments
- Knowledge of community health resources and system navigation.
