Position Overview
Metal & Wood Products (1958) Ltd. is seeking a full-time SolidWorks Draftsperson to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating 3D models, preparing client and shop drawings, and supporting our fabrication and production teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with supervisors to prepare drawings for client review and approval.
- Create detailed 3D models and shop drawings using SolidWorks.
- Work closely with CNC and fabrication teams to ensure accurate project execution.
- Validate designs and confirm dimensions based on site measurements.
- Ensure customer specifications are met and all required components are incorporated, including electrical, automation, and mechanical systems where applicable.
- Complete material take-offs to support project planning and purchasing.
- Prepare files and layouts for in-house CNC and waterjet cutting equipment.
- Provide technical support to production teams throughout fabrication.
- Troubleshoot design and fabrication challenges and develop practical solutions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by documenting and implementing successful solutions for future projects.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD software.
- Strong mechanical aptitude gained through education, experience, or both.
- Ability to communicate effectively regarding:
- Mechanical components
- Fabrication techniques
- Assembly methods
- Installation procedures
- Experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Technician, Drafting Technician, Welder, Fabricator, or Millwright is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of material properties, including:
- Machinability
- Weldability
- Strength
- Corrosion resistance
- Material compatibility
- Knowledge of structural systems, load calculations, bolt sizing, and design principles is an asset.
- Strong computer skills and technical proficiency.
- Ability to read and work with both metric and imperial dimensions.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Commitment to workplace safety and a "Safety First" mindset.
