What you’ll do
The Software Architect for the OpenStack platform will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing high-level software architecture solutions for our OpenStack-based cloud infrastructure tailored to the Telecom core network. The solution involves deploying OpenStack services on the Wind River Cloud Platform as Kubernetes containerized services for an on-premise core network solution. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with OpenStack, Kubernetes, and a deep understanding of cloud computing principles, and specific knowledge of Telecom core networks.

Product Line Managers, Engineering Project Managers, Development Managers, developers, and other architects to plan ongoing feature development.

Product Line Managers, Sales, and customer architects to determine software requirements.

Significant opportunity to engage with and contribute to various open-source communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design of overall platform architecture and container services features for the Wind River OpenStack.

Oversee integration of OpenStack features, design of new features, scoping of work, defining approaches with colleagues and upstream communities.

Resident expert on OpenStack, architecting and designing new features as needed.

Work with other architects to define technical roadmap for Wind River OpenStack

Contribute to the open-source community with the aim of advancing the community. StarlingX, OpenStack and Kubernetes are communities with which you will have visibility and contributions.

Research, design, and write specifications and methodologies in cooperation with other architects.

Work closely with Engineering Project Managers, Engineering Development Managers, and other Architects to plan ongoing feature development.

Work with Product Line Management, Sales, and customer architects to determine software requirements. Direct customer engagement and travel will be possible.

Generate outward facing whitepapers, blogs, presentations and talks at conferences.

Investigate new technologies and techniques and research ongoing industry developments.

Assists in project management decisions.

Mentor senior developers in technology, industry best practices, procedures, and concepts.
Core Competencies:
-
Bachelor's or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.

10+ years experience in cloud technologies, with typically 14+ years of experience in software engineering.

In-depth knowledge of cloud computing principles and experience with cloud platforms, particularly OpenStack.

Experience with deploying and operating OpenStack services in production.

Knowledge of networking, storage, and virtualization technologies.

Experience with containerization technologies (e.g. Kubernetes) and microservices architecture.

Experience with Telecom core network protocols and standards (e.g., 4G/5G, IMS, EPC) is a benefit.

Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Golang and other common infrastructure management languages (e.g. Ansible, Puppet).

Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins).

Strong understanding of software architecture principles, design patterns, and best practices.

Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Experience in participating and contributing to open-source projects.
