Position Summary:
The Recreationist develops knowledge about participants in order to respond to their individual and group needs through a
process of formal and informal assessment. The Recreationist plan, implements, facilitates, and evaluates individual and group
programs suited to the individual needs of the participants. Provides input to the monthly calendar of events utilizing program
planning and development. The Recreationist contributes to participant care plan with attention to goals and measurable
outcomes. The position also works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team with the focus on the resident’s best interests.
Emphasizes and encourages participation utilizing resident centered approaches tailoring to their abilities, needs, interests, and
values.
Education & Experience: Key Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Minimum 2 year college
diploma or post diploma
certificate in recreation and/or
leisure studies, or therapeutic
recreation
o or, active enrollment in
such a field of study and
completion will be
obtained within 1 year
o or, current registration
with recognized
therapeutic recreation
association in Ontario
Eligibility for registration with

Creative and forward minded thinking to provide programming to meet the needs of varying
populations within the long term care home
Ability to assist with maintenance of appropriate department records including program
development, program delivery, assessments, evaluations, participation, and documentation
according to professional standards of practice
Understanding of the goals of activities and restorative care programs in a long term care
setting
Demonstrated leadership skills to coordinate and supervise volunteers, students, residents, and
programs
