Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for completing work orders and responding to tenant maintenance requests across a portfolio of residential buildings. Duties include performing general maintenance tasks such as light electrical and plumbing repairs, painting, drywall repair, cleaning, landscaping, snow removal, appliance repair, and garbage removal. The role also involves assessing tenant concerns and recommending practical solutions, while maintaining regular communication with administrative staff to provide daily updates on work orders and job progress. Additional responsibilities include overseeing maintenance schedules and logbooks for building systems, assisting with fire safety plans, drills, and inspections, responding to emergency and after-hours maintenance calls when required, and coordinating with contractors on-site to support ongoing projects and repairs.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have experience troubleshooting and performing minor repairs on building systems, including plumbing, electrical, heating and cooling systems, roofing, and general property maintenance. Applicants must possess a valid Nova Scotia Class 5 Driver’s License, a clean driver’s abstract, and have access to a reliable vehicle. A verified clear criminal record check is required for this position. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities and be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a maintenance team environment. Professional communication skills, including telephone etiquette, are essential, along with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends for emergency maintenance requests is required. Candidates should also demonstrate excellent time management, reliability, and communication skills. Basic computer skills are considered an asset, and previous experience in rental property maintenance is beneficial but not required.
