The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Manager, Development Review Services, this role is responsible for independently providing professional planning recommendations related to major, high profile development applications. As a Senior Planner, Development you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

Oversee the day to day management/supervision of major planning development projects, reports and studies, as assigned by the Manager, Development Review Services
Provide guidance and information to internal Town staff, Council, other relevant public agencies, and the general public regarding Caledon’s planning process, Official Plan policies, and other relevant planning policies
Responsible for the processing and consolidation of recommendations related to major profile applications including Official Plan Amendments, Rezoning applications, Site Plans, Committee of Adjustment, subdivision/condominium and land division
Review major provincial, regional and municipal policy in response to development and planning related inquires and to support the recommendation process
Attend Council and other meetings to represent Planning and the Planning interest of the Town of Caledon as assigned
Represent Development Review Services regarding major referrals to the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal as assigned
Prepare Planning studies and reports related to Planning matters

COVID-19: In consideration of the current pandemic and Public Health orders, the Town of Caledon is providing limited in-person services as Town Hall is open to the public by appointment only. The successful candidate for Senior Planner, Development will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a planning professional with post-secondary degree in Planning, or a related discipline and membership or qualifications for membership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute and/or Canadian Institute of Planners. Our ideal candidate has minimum 7 years’ experience in land use planning, in addition to increasingly responsible municipal planning experience.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to exercise significant discretion and sensitivity involving occasional access to confidential data. The ideal candidate will also have strong ability to analyze planning data and generate effective, efficient planning policies. We are seeking an individual with demonstrated organizational skills with considerable attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills involving regular development of new and improved methods, with the ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment, to produce policy reports under time constraints.

This position offers a salary range of $87,033.66 - $102,374.76 plus a competitive benefit package.
