At OneFeather you’ll work with a close team of people who are energized in our efforts to ensure that Indigenous empowerment is woven into the very fabric of our technology. Your work with us will be high-impact, collaborative, and will help us ensure that we continue to push the envelope in the technology we create. We work hard to provide a flexible, positive, and supportive work environment, and we offer competitive compensation, extended health and wellness benefits, a professional development budget, flexible remote-first work, three weeks’ paid vacation time, a 4-day work week after one year of employment, and an impactful product.

POSITION SUMMARY

OneFeather is looking for a user-centred UI Designer who understands that intentional focus towards maximizing usability and the user experience leads to better, smarter and stronger relationships with a product. Part strategic thinker and part visual design nerd, our ideal candidate will innately blend their passion for creating thoughtful and engaging designs, with an undeniable talent for dreaming up interfaces that are intuitive, seamless, and captivating. A flexible team-player who excels in an ego-free and collaborative environment, our UI Designer will tether themselves firmly to the mission of OneFeather, infusing depth and nuance into their work so that the family of digital products that we offer come to life. As the second member of our company’s remote-based design team, this role will have immediate impact, help us push the envelope in user interface design, and play an active role in our company’s growth story.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand UI challenges and develop user-centred designs focused on effortless usability
  • Conduct and synthesize user research, and infuse results intentionally into your designs
  • Use Figma to develop UI mockups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how a new feature or product should function and appear
  • Remain excited and engaged through the iterative approach and development of your designs
  • Champion strategic design thinking and user-centred design in every project
  • Contribute to and expand our design system by looking for reusable patterns and UI components

RELEVANT KNOWLEDGE

  • Self-identifying as Indigenous or having first-hand knowledge or experience working with an Indigenous community will be considered an asset
  • 3+ years of UI-focused experience designing for web or mobile applications
  • Solid understanding of design principles and best practices in UX/UI
  • Applied experience in software relevant to UI design - Figma, Sketch, Zeplin, Invision Studio, Photoshop, Illustrator
  • Experience working with Basecamp or other online collaboration applications will be considered an asset
  • A strong ability to remain nimble and responsive to a fast-paced and competitive industry
  • Experience consistently thinking outside of the box to push the envelope with user-centred design
  • A default to curiosity and creativity
  • Pride in detail-oriented communication, relationship-building, and organization
  • Possess a growth-focused mindset with a strong desire to learn and improve
  • Proven experience working in a small, remote, dynamic team in a start-up environment
